Uses for a Bandana or hankie !!

I've got an issued tourniquet that I take with me. I'm fairly sure I'd be completely useless at turning a hanky into one if I ever need one.

Where can I get British army ration packs?

They aren't sold as food, they are military surplus.

Uses for a Bandana or hankie !!

I like the suggested use as toilet paper and then two suggestions later was to wash the dishes with it. I hope that's on different trips after a turn round the washing machine.

    Dyneema 1mm 4 strand 200lb. A skinny Zing-it

Find a large area, put two posts in the ground 50 metres apart and wrap it around. You should finish where you started and you just cut all the strands at that post. I work in an aircraft hangar and this sort of thing is easy. If you work in a post office you may have to consider if this is...

A poor tale ... but a good night

I'm in the middle of a Youth Work degree and certainly understand your frustration with this age group. Were shelters perhaps a little too advanced with a less than motivated group? Tarp shelters are much less labour intensive but can still give a sense of achievement. If your group failed at...

    Quotes to live by

Carl Pilkington "if you're worrying about wrinkles on your b******s then your life is pretty good." He was talking to an American with a plastic surgery obsession at the time.

    thinking of going "offgrid"

Are you sure? The programme was Kevin Mccloud's man made home and made a big deal of him not needing planning for building this thing on his land. There is another C4 guy, a Geordie, who completely re-engineered an old static, is that the one near Minehead? Wee edit, George Clark. daveO I've...

    thinking of going "offgrid"

Kevin Macleod on channel four built a rather marvellous shed/mobile home last year. Google it as he didn't need planning.

    Our dependence on electricity

Nuclear has the same issues as renewable, we mine the raw materials and refine them using fossil fuels. The return is probably better than current renewables but the issue is the same. This isn't a political site so I don't intend going down that route but I do feel the need to say this. Even...

    Our dependence on electricity

In my opinion the issue in Scotland Is that to build and maintain our windmills, wave power thingumyjigs or whatever gizmo is generating electricity we still require traditional fossil fuels. When we maintain them and build them from materials and energy that are renewable we might be able to be...

    Lightweight food

Pitta breads are great, warm them on a stone by the fire for a bit and they're great for a bacon sandwich.

    Broken Kindle

John I was with you until about 8 months ago. I'm in the RAF and went away for the summer. Usually this means I end up reading rubbish I don't really enjoy for most of my tour once my stock runs out. With a kindle I was able to get hold of books I actually want to read. Now I'm home though...

British Army Boots, same problem with 3 pairs!

The spirit of my post was that they aren't expected last five years hence the shelf life. By the way I've been that man you've mentioned, leaving a trail of rubber on the way to work. I hadn't worn issue boots for years and dug them out for an inspection. I failed.

British Army Boots, same problem with 3 pairs!

Will, the Army don't have the same boots for 5 years. The guys probably have 2 pairs they alternate between and they'll be lucky to get 2 years out of them. Remember they are expected to change them as soon as they start looking a little tatty. Usually about the same time the rest of us think...

British Army Boots, same problem with 3 pairs!

British military kit is made to fulfil a purpose at the cheapest possible price, you get what you pay for. Generally lads and lasses in the military aren't overly comfortable in their issued kit and wonder why anyone would buy it to wear over the much better selection out there.

    UK Military winter down bag

As the title says, I've got a UK Military sleeping bag up for swap, I'm after a short back military Bergen I can put my side pouches on. I'll try and get a pic if you want but the bag is used by me in the past but still in good condition.

Recommended amounts of daily fluid intake are so much mince

Modern day Servicemen and women in the desert are advised to try and pee clear once a day. This guarantees that you are fully hydrated once in every 24 hours.

    Sycamore Uses?

Whistles! Although you would probably make a fair few with a whole tree.

    Stupid idiot with a knife

My thoughts on leaving the house Ogri went along the lines of "I'm only nipping to the woods for half an hour, I wont need my first aid kit." I never use my knife outside of the back garden without a kit with me, just in case. It wasn't a bad cut really and at least I had the rag I'd been...

    Stupid idiot with a knife

That would be me by the way. I've just been to the woods and thought I'd have a little sit down to make some nettle string. As there are a few dog walkers around instead of having my knife on my belt or in it's sheath in front of me I kept it in my pocket. When it came to trimming the ends of...
