    Autumn fungi forage

Lovely wander in woods today. Amazingly mild at 18C, no wind and yet a damp humid air until the sun burnt through. Lots of fungi:

Car suspension - is it still ok?

A car's tyres should NEVER touch the body work even at maximum load and under compression. If a tyre was to foul the body then it could quickly wear and fail catastrophically. Be aware that the maximum load of most cars is only something like 500 kg (I think 540 kg for you car depending on...

    Vaude Power Lizard and mods

I have the larger 2/3 and find it a great 2 person lightweight tent. 1427g with extra pegs for all guying points. The only modification I have done is make one of the side guys quick release then I use the peg bag, which clips to end of door, over a pole to make an open porch.

    Robens Vapour Airbed

Quick update having spent two nights out in the Cairngorms sleeping on the mats. Despite temperature dropping to near freezing the mat seemed to insulate ok and I did not feel cold to the ground. The mat packed away really compact and was quick and easy to inflate by mouth but I was aware of a...

    PHD or Alpkit sleeping bag?

I too have been looking closely at lightweight sleeping bags. PHD definitely make some of the best bags available and Alpkit make some of the most cost effective bags I've seen. Looking closely at the specs I see some of the cheaper mid range temperature rated Alpkit bags are through stitched...

    Robens Vapour Airbed

The Robens Vapour Airbed is one of the lightest sleep mats I could find. Actually finding it for sale was hard as there appears to be very little stock of these anywhere. The mat looks identical to the Alpkit Cloudbase but Alpkit are out of stock of that too! Came next day from...

    Sweden/Finland/Norway recommendations

Just back from Saariselka Finland. Great resort with a variety of accommodation at different prices, good supermarket if you are self catering, down hill and cross-country skiing and many marked trails out into the forest and onto the fells. You can fly into Ivalo about 20 km north then a...

Problems when using the Tentipi tent

I think Tentipi are well made and fit for purpose. They are VERY expensive but then so are many Scandinavian products. I was glad to be able to view the tents before deciding to purchase. I went for Onyx 7 CP for use by two people with stove inside. It will take 4 at a pinch around the...

    Overnight kit roundup

That looks like a good set up. Just remember it is getting pretty cold at night now. What rating is your sleeping bag? You may need a pad or more insulation under / over your bag, or perhaps just plan to sleep in your warm clothes and hat inside the sleeping bag.

    4x4 sprinter

Mine is manual. I find it gets better economy if I ignore the gear change indicator and let the engine rev a little rather than let it struggle in a higher gear.

    4x4 sprinter

I have VW T5 4Motion. Not quite as big as Sprinter but you can get it as either panel van, Kombie or Shuttle/window van/Caravelle which are registered as cars. The lwb high roof has about the same space as swb mid-roof Sprinter. Both Sprinter 4x4 and VW 4Motion are widely used by emergency...

    Night in Jerven Bag

I didn't take any photos last night as it was dark by the time I set out. Photos are from previous uses, however I believe there has been snow in the high mountains already!
