http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waste_Isolation_Pilot_Plant - Yucca Mountain should have been the main location but as you say, has been cancelled.
UK recycles the fuel it can at Sellafield and remaining HLW is encapsulated in glass & concrete then stored. It is currently stored near site but a...
No, but as I said from the outset, I'm pro-nuclear and as I live within sight of Sellafield (where my wife & many, many friends work) I probably have a higher level of knowledge of the industry than
many. I have had many in depth discussions (over wine) with senior managers in both NDA &...
I'm pro-nuclear as it is the 'best' way we can generate electricity in the UK unless we want to keep using coal / oil (until they run out), wave / wind (if they can be made efficient) or gas (more fracking anyone). How we treat the reprocessed waste still needs lots of thought and a deep core...
I recently bought a Karrimor Camping pillow from sportsdirect and was pleasantly surprised - it's not that big but fits neatly inside the hood of a mummy style sleeping bag. I can honestly say that it's streets ahead of any jumper / fleece combination I've tried in the past. Bargain as well at £3 !!
A typical scout is... unique, but the same as the Scout next to him. It is a 'brotherhood' after all
Someone joins the scouts to... do things that they don't normally get a chance to & enjoy themsselves
Scouting is... about having fun, learning 'stuff' and becoming a better person through the...
Sounds vaguely like my childhood - you weren't watching through the fence were you :p We were brought inside at the end of the day for a hose down & some tea. How times have changed
Ah, the compulsory 'sharing the water bottle with the dog' situation ! I'm not sure our Chocolate Lab would drink from anything else now when we're out :)
Getting wood for burning around here is not a problem - I have a sycamore that fell in high winds and a friend is slowly taking that apart to burn. He's probably got another 3-4 tonnes to recover !! As long as you know some farmers / forestry guys, there is an ample supply of wood. I help my...
Lucky you - SWMBO doesn't want a wood burner, despite my arguments that's (compared to gas) it's warmer, cheaper, more fuel efficient, better for the environment, etc :(
It's good to get the Scouts (or others) walking in the 'real' dark. Last Scout walk we had was through a local forest and we sat with torches off just chatting for 10 mins. Then I got them to look at the stars and they were astounded at just how many they could see - just shows what a few...
For 'outdoors' stuff, I use the following;
Compass - does what it says
Endomondo Pro - records trips / journeys
GeOrg - Geocaching
MM Tracker - using Memory Map QCT maps
MyTracks - brilliant & free for recording everything about a walk / cycle / paddle
Star Chart - like Google Sky map but...
Really depends on what you want to use it for. If it's for climbing (or leading) then then sizes are pretty much 'standard' to allow for rope combinations.
Personally (for climbing or any situation where my health is on the line) I don't mind the extra 5 seconds it takes to secure a screwgate.
And to 'help' in getting my climbing validation for Scouts, a Black Diamond harness, belay plate & some karabiners....already suspended myself from the garage roof to see how comfy it is.
