Plans to store nuclear waste in Ennerdale.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waste_Isolation_Pilot_Plant - Yucca Mountain should have been the main location but as you say, has been cancelled. UK recycles the fuel it can at Sellafield and remaining HLW is encapsulated in glass & concrete then stored. It is currently stored near site but a...

Plans to store nuclear waste in Ennerdale.

No, but as I said from the outset, I'm pro-nuclear and as I live within sight of Sellafield (where my wife & many, many friends work) I probably have a higher level of knowledge of the industry than many. I have had many in depth discussions (over wine) with senior managers in both NDA &...

Plans to store nuclear waste in Ennerdale.

I'm pro-nuclear as it is the 'best' way we can generate electricity in the UK unless we want to keep using coal / oil (until they run out), wave / wind (if they can be made efficient) or gas (more fracking anyone). How we treat the reprocessed waste still needs lots of thought and a deep core...

    Pillow Recomedations

I recently bought a Karrimor Camping pillow from sportsdirect and was pleasantly surprised - it's not that big but fits neatly inside the hood of a mummy style sleeping bag. I can honestly say that it's streets ahead of any jumper / fleece combination I've tried in the past. Bargain as well at £3 !!

    Calling all Scout leaders

A typical scout is... unique, but the same as the Scout next to him. It is a 'brotherhood' after all Someone joins the scouts to... do things that they don't normally get a chance to & enjoy themsselves Scouting is... about having fun, learning 'stuff' and becoming a better person through the...

Essential equipment for camping (if you're 2 and a half)

Sounds vaguely like my childhood - you weren't watching through the fence were you :p We were brought inside at the end of the day for a hose down & some tea. How times have changed

Afternoon Out With My Best Friend....:)

Ah, the compulsory 'sharing the water bottle with the dog' situation ! I'm not sure our Chocolate Lab would drink from anything else now when we're out :)

What is it about a wood Fire ???

Getting wood for burning around here is not a problem - I have a sycamore that fell in high winds and a friend is slowly taking that apart to burn. He's probably got another 3-4 tonnes to recover !! As long as you know some farmers / forestry guys, there is an ample supply of wood. I help my...

What is it about a wood Fire ???

Lucky you - SWMBO doesn't want a wood burner, despite my arguments that's (compared to gas) it's warmer, cheaper, more fuel efficient, better for the environment, etc :(

    Night time walk

It's good to get the Scouts (or others) walking in the 'real' dark. Last Scout walk we had was through a local forest and we sat with torches off just chatting for 10 mins. Then I got them to look at the stars and they were astounded at just how many they could see - just shows what a few...

Looking for a small locking carabiner

Really depends on what you want to use it for. If it's for climbing (or leading) then then sizes are pretty much 'standard' to allow for rope combinations. Personally (for climbing or any situation where my health is on the line) I don't mind the extra 5 seconds it takes to secure a screwgate.

    Considering upgrading my Canoe

I recently got a Mad River Explorer 16 TT and am very impressed with it. Handles very well solo (albeit on short / flat trips so far) but is a bit heavy to get on the roofracks easily solo. Worth checking SoTP Classifieds as there are a few boats for sale there.

    Possession of an Offensive Weapon.

Whilst I agree with many that we're not being told all of the story, the issue of permission (or not) to camp is quite interesting. Normally, trespass on land is a civil (as opposed to a legal) offence and the police cannot do anything about that. HOWEVER, under the Criminal Justice and Public...

    Google Earth .kmz file attachment

Works because you have linked to the Google Map with kmz uploaded (https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2WTX7PTBythVDM4TTJGTzNTOS1FZ2JyT0ZGTHR1QQ) rather than attaching a separate .kmz file. Gives the same results though :)
