So we have a Yucca Tree in our bag garden that we are going to get rid of. My question is are there any uses? Is the wood any god for carving?? Im seem to remember ray mears saying something about it...
If it is a Cordiline austalis, the wood is useless, very stringy like matted rope. i took some down a couple of years ago, it blunts chainsaw blades quickly and the sap stains everything metal blue, we tried to dig the root out as well and a ten foot tree's roots go down for ever. We dug down six feet cut it off and said sod it, once dry the trunk burns really fast and hot. Simples.
Ray mears recommends making cordage from the leaves
Blunt the tip and bash the bottom against a rock to soften it then split it down the middle and take half and split that down the middle etc. etc. until you reach your desired thickness.
