No, these are just regular AW Woodlores, and quite recent ones too. 1 & 2 are just how they are listed at Tamarack.

i'd read it to mean the first and second production models of this knife too, i thought that was the reason for the high price. thanks for clarifying that jonathan. £800 is ridiculous money for these

No, they certainly aren't first production models. Alan never numbered any of the Woodlores and these two are definately ones he made quite recently. Certainly in the last 3 years, maybe sooner. It is quite misleading how they are listed.

Actually I believe Alan numbered the first 50 woodlores.
AndyP sold one on BB a few years back.

I've never seen or heard of any numbered ones that are branded as Ray Mears Woodlore, but he did date them by year. These two on Tamarack wouldn't be any of those if he indeed did number either early version. They are too recent and the wrong shape.

Just dug my old one out and it is dated 4th quarter of 1994 #04 94. This is the only way he dated them. Not numbered consecutively.

Yes the very first ones, I think the first 50, were numbered. it wasn't stamped/etched onto the blade however, but simply scribed/hand written by Alan by some form of engraving pen or similar in his handwriting.

Again these were the very first of the production run with the much slimmer profile compared to the latest chunkier blades and didn't have a tapered tang.

HTH.

That is how mine is, very rough hand engraving. An old colleague who was with me on the course had the same etching 04 94, but they are so faint on there. I always assumed that it was dated in quarters and years and not consecutively and individually numbered from 1 to 50, is that correct Andy?

Makes me wonder how much I could get for this one, as it's unused and unique (BB knife blade and RM style handle):

Yes JD, as you said they were not numbered consecutively 1-50 but the numbering related to the year and it's quarter, similar to that you would get on the case back of a vintage Rolex watch.

As i said and if I can remember correctly Alan told me it was only done on the first 50, so an engraved one will be quite rare.

Cool. I'd even forgot they had that engraving on them. I must get in touch with my old mate and see if he wants to get rid of his. I doubt he ever used it as well :D Ker-ching!

Quite sure that's the one Martyn designed over on British Blades.
Very similar to the Woodlore with a more upswept tip.. Again these were done in a limited run.

Have the boxes always had the same design on them, and made in the same style?

They've only been making those boxes for the last two or three years. Before that you just got them in a jiffy bag wrapped in bubble wrap. They never used to supply the box, it's a recent thing started with the 25th JP knife which was leatherbound.
