Early Spring Update by Pablo Comment (0)

As I write this I'm looking at the forecast for the weekend. Snow! What's all that about after the really mild weather we've had reently which almost heralded the early onset of Spring.

Well, things happened quite early around here. First to show were the Snowdrops of course then Dog's mercury creeping up through the undergrowth and then Celandine in the warmer areas. Young nettles are now appearing. It will soon be time for nettle tea and soup.

I've been lucky enough to sleep out for a couple of nights about every two weeks

Collecting Birch Sap by Nightwalker Comment (0)

Its that time of year again, the sap starts rising in the tree's, preparing themselfs to spring into life. As I sit here drinking Birch-sap I thought I would post up about my nightly activities... Unfortunatly I've been very busy lately and my oppertunity to get out and collect some sap was left to last night, which was a bit of a shame as I

DD Hammock Karabiner Mod by Chainsaw Comment (3)

Well finally got round to mod'ing my 2008 DDHammock from Sandbags47s excellent group buy . My 2006 was already fitted out with karabiners but the 2008 was still waiting for the same treatment! I like krabs on a hammock to work as drip rings and during the day, if you unclip one end, reconnect it to the ridgeline at the other end, it give you loads more space under the tarp. I wanted to go from the one on

New start on blog! by w00dsmoke Comment (1)

Hi again folks, it's been a while since starting this blog and I guess it was started with good intentions and abandoned! Well back on track again. I've been very busy over the winter with work and I've had a few very frightening though debilitating, thankfully not life threatening health issues that have made me sit up and take stock of everything, hence the wee break. A stomach bleed-the modern condition my doc calls it...and recurrent laberynthitis a very frightening vertigo

Firemaking, biblical insight, seed planning and a shot of the finished dried oyster mushrooms. by rich59 Comment (2)

Blogs and blogging

I don't know.  You start out on a journey and you don't always know where you are going.   3 days in, and a third entry in my blog and what to you know?  I get round to finding out what a blog is.  I now know it is a "web log".  I guess that means a regular log on the web.  Well, that sounds like what I am doing at the moment!  So, may be I have got something right.

Fire, fire, fire

Thale cress and the dehydrator by rich59 Comment (0)

1) The dehydrator

This went very well.  After 36 hours the chopped fungus was beautifully dry, and not at all browned.  They were at dry as a crisp and had retained a nice, strong mushroom flavour.  Great for stews and soups in the future.  Mmmm.   I have stored them in some sealed jars.

 2) Thale Cress

I am on the lookout for a tiny plant - Thale cress.  Why you might ask?  It's because

London Bushcrafter explores by rich59 Comment (0)

This is my first blog entry.  I hope there will be many more.  I aim to flag up new entries in the forum so people will know to look.

My bushcraft is not all doing and teaching.  I do much more thinking about the subject than doing.  And I do experimental stuff that is often quite wrong.

 So, here is item 1:-

Dehydrating oyster mushrooms

Been a while by queeg9000 Comment (0)

Well it's been over 6 months now since my last blog so I thought I'd give you all an update, I've not done a whole lot of Bushcraft, I did go to Glyn-yr-Myl a while back, and Ogri the trog and I spent a day or two out in the woods, but apart from that not much.

The reason behind all this, is back when the summer Bushmoot was about to start, my wife and I were expecting twins, due in November of 2007, they arrived during the Moot, way too early as you can imagine!

Little Harry didn't make it, but our little boy Ieuan who weighed in at 1lb, is still with
