Breaking a Habit with a Match Coat by Mungo Comment (0)

Last night, in lieu of watching television, I got a wool blanket that I had picked up at Value Village for $4.00 and went out into the backyard with a book and the beagle.

I made a quick match coat from the blanket, and read a Tom Clancy book until the light fell and my eyes began to strain. My chair began to feel uncomfortable so I ran downstairs, grabbed a closed-cell foam camping mattress, and

Mushroom Identification - Gently Fried in Salt, Butter and Pepper, on a Baguette by Mungo Comment (0)

After work today, I got home and found Spring relaxing and reading a book. I had stopped by the grocery store on the way home from work and picked up some chocolate cheesecake ice-cream by Ben and Jerry's. After plonking some into a cone, Spring was a very happy customer.

Monty and I sat for a while in the backyard while I read my new Roger Phillips Mushrooms book - a comprehensive guide with over 1,2 50 detailed photographs of mushrooms and other fungi in it (that's what

My Special Friends: Dunkler Shirmpilz & Common Inkcap (Coprinus atramentarius & Lepiota felina) by Mungo Comment (0)

Sunday, August 17, 2008

If I were to find every single mushroom and fungus detailed in my new Mushrooms book, I would have 1,247 specimens more than I have located already.

A Leopard Earthball Mushroom by Mungo Comment (0)

On Labour Day this past weekend, I went for a hike down into the valley behind the house. This valley forms part of the watershed of the East Don River, which branches into the main Don River - the central river around which the historical Fort York (which formed the beginnings of Toronto) was built.

Useful Algonquin Park Links & More by Mungo Comment (0)

In a week, two days, and a handful of hours, I will be in the car leaving the driveway, preparing to drive north to Algonquin Park. My backsack will be packed, Monty the beagle will be relaxed, sitting on a blanket and strapped in to the backseat of the car, and Spring will be waving from the front door.

Between then and now I have a major project to release at work - it has been a lot of effort, time, and engagement with the vendor and client group - and it is going well. Knock

Family Bushcrafting by Jedadiah Comment (0)

I'm quite enjoying this blog thing, very theraputic. So, i thought i'd add this entry now.

One thing i like about Bushcraft is that it is non-competative. I used to play golf and found that, as much as swinging the bats with the lads is enjoyable, i really wanted to be with my family. The fact that some of my fellow golfers wanted to win at all costs just brought this into focus for me. I'm a great believer in 'it's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the

To Infinity and Beyond....................! by Jedadiah Comment (0)

Well, i thought it time to start one of these bloggy things; i've no idea how it will turn out, but hopefully will give some an indication of what i'm about, what i'm up to and let people know that Bushcraft is not just the reserve of well funded single people, families can enjoy it too and on a budget.

Before i go on, i'd better introduce myself and tell you a little about my circumstances. My name is Spencer, although i'm better known on the forum as 'Jedadiah&#

 2. for the heat treatment i made a furnace out of a peice of exhaust repair steel and some cans . then i got loads of charcoal ( from a fire

The Plan For Saturday by agiles10 Comment (0)

This Saturday I'm planning on going into the woods and practicing some of the bushcraft skills I have learnt and some which I want to try out for the first time. The plan is to get up early Saturday and head west to the local woods I know, its about 10 minutes from where I live so it very convenient. I am only going out for the morning so wont take too much probably a 35 litre bag will do me, I am planning on practicing lighting a fire with birch bark and a fire steel, looking
