The Bushcraft UK Bushmoot was conceived to provide an organised family event where people with an interest in bushcraft could gather with like minded individuals and expand their knowledge through mutual skill sharing. It doesn’t matter whether you are new to the world of bushcraft or an old hand, everyone is welcome and all we ask is that you come and enjoy yourself. Everyone is free to share what they know and we promise you will leave with new found knowledge and new friends.
The Moot is now Full

....for a fantastic event. Really enjoyed it. Was great to meet some of you guys. Where do I book for next year?
As the man said where do I book for next year.
I was struck by the fact it was a user friendly event, I did not matter if you came on your own or with friends and family. The kind of freedom given to the children to roam and that every adult kept an eye out for them was fantastic. A holiday for kids that has not been available for many years. The classes were informal and informative and even if you did not fancy doing it yourself you could just watch and learn. It must be the only place in Europe where small and not so small boys were encouraged to make fires.. a childhood dream come true! As the man said, sign me up for next year!
I've never been to one before - didn't know they existed - and only went because of being booked through the Society for Storytelling Discussion group but I had a really great time and an experience that most storytellers don't get: a whole lot of storytelling Virgins! We storytellers are still struggling with the public misconception that storytelling is about reading books aloud and that it's only for children. We have lost part of our culture that was a main source of continuity with the past and a painless way of transmitting our cultural and moral values on to our children. (I bet none of the kids who heard "Jenny Greenteeth" will ever go near a pond again without thinking about taking care!) It was lovely to be able to tell in just the right atmosphere and to people who wanted to listen.
I also learned so much myself and would like to thank all the teachers - specially Susanna who took pity on my incompetence with a flint and steel. Sign me up for next year too!
Thats it I am coming the story teller was great, I am going to listen in to all of the kids stories as well next year!
Story teller lady was fantastic! Sandsnakes

Is there a 2008 moot?
we have been to 3 now - looking forward to this one. our kids loved the story telling twice a day around the fire last year. Our faves were the naturopath showing us poultices and Stuart's bushman stories. All good though. To have so many people happy to share their knowledge with us all we feel privileged to have been a part of it.
I intend to do a bigger demonstration this year with more kit and a fellow naturopath (Carla Halford, runs a clinic in Shropshire and Birmingham) as a helper. It will be entitled Bush Medicine as it will also cover some simple kitchen herbal remidies, poultices and simple accupressure. I will bring a manual (sorry you have to buy it) which will cover all of the stuff we will do. I will post closer to the event what you will need. It will be best to come in pairs so you can practice on each other. I intend to do two or three sessions of about 2/3 hours each. My favourite beer is Flowers IPA and scotch is Macallum 12yr old malt (open to bribery, who me!). I will post what is needed later on and generally gather a list of people who interested. Oh yes if you are interested Carla can do a womens health special (women only guys!. Let me know. Sandsnakes After the fun and jolly japes last year of the pirates (ah sorry friendly fisher folk)in the naughty corner. Who I might add were throughly trounced by the the crew of the Jammy Dodger (captain aged 7). I am setting up a Zen corner based on quiet contemplation or at least quiet conversation with the odd glass of whatever. Look our for the white Zen symbol flag ( Zen symbol is a hand drawn black circle on a white background). Its also where I will have my post of hang over herbal brew on the go in the mornings. i have never been to a bushmoot before but i'm aiming to make this year my first! bushcraft skills is quite a new interest for me, re-awakened years after childhood attempts at constructing dens, making weapons and striding off bravely into the wild woods and fields surrounding my grandparents house for adventures.
and now i can't wait to start doing that sort of stuff again (hopefully slightly more successfully) learning new, interesting and useful skills from people who know their onions thankyou bushcraft people!
I too have never been to a bushmoot, but it looks Fab
One question my other half has, is it camping (ie under canvas), or can he build himself a leaf shelter ? Weeze
Its been done, last year we were allowed to cut a limited amount of timber so I guess its up to him.

I would really love to go to the Bushmoot but have very limited funds, is there any possibility I could come and help out at the Bushmoot (doing any jobs required) for a free ticket, food and some free time to see and learn some of the Bushcraft that is taking place? Im a hard working enthuisiastic young bean of 23 who is eager to learn as much as possible about Bushcraft Thanks Squidgy cub
Just booked for this event and really looking forward to it. Do the odd bit of bushcraft butlooking forward to really learning by doing at this event. I assume that dogs are allowed?
