Summer Bushmoot 2008 Print E-mail
Written by Tony Bristow

The Bushcraft UK Bushmoot was conceived to provide an organised family event where people with an interest in bushcraft could gather with like minded individuals and expand their knowledge through mutual skill sharing.

It doesn’t matter whether you are new to the world of bushcraft or an old hand, everyone is welcome and all we ask is that you come and enjoy yourself. Everyone is free to share what they know and we promise you will leave with new found knowledge and new friends.

The Moot is now Full

Tickets for the full event have sold out, sorry if you've missed the opportunity but there will be plenty more Moots in the future.  We want it to be a great experience for everyone which means keeping the numbers limited.

Day visitors are more than welcome but we're no longer taking bookings through the shop so you'll have to sign in and pay at the event. The day rate for the event is £20 payable at reception - Camping spaces are no longer available.

bushmoot20071.jpgBushcraft UK BUSHMOOT - SUMMER 2008

The dates are the Friday the 1st to Tuesday the 5th of Aug.  Please remember that this is not a bank holiday weekend.

Anyone is more than welcome to come for a day or for the whole period.

These meets are for everyone, no matter how involved you are in bushcraft, bring the family!

Example workshops at the event:

Mors Kochanski, Flintknapping with Will & John Lord, netmaking and snares, shelter building, knots, cordage, fire by friction with bowdrill and handrill, tool sharpening, plant walks, tracking, woodcraft skills, leather working, carving, cooking and lots more...

There will be a mixture of scheduled workshops and informal workshops that tend to happen spontaneously.

The cost for the Moot this year will be £60 for an adult and £30 for 14-17 years and free for all children 13 or younger. This fee covers most workshops (sometimes a small donation for materials is appropriate and flintknapping is prebooked and has an extra charge), camping for 4 nights and 5 days, the money goes towards covering the costs of organising the moot and the rent of the site.

The day rate for the event is £20.

Please pre pay here via the BushcraftUK Shop:

or by cheque to Bushcraft Media Ltd, and send it to Bushcraft, PO Box 75, SA44 5QW

This year we are limiting numbers to the Moot so that everyone has a fantastic experience, so book early to avoid disappointment. If you have any questions feel free to email us at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it

Please be aware that we will have the Bushcraftuk shop at the bushmoot. We will also have extra products that will soon be available on-line, and some fun products for the children.

Wonderful event
written by sandsnakes , August 02, 2007
As the man said where do I book for next year.

I was struck by the fact it was a user friendly event, I did not matter if you came on your own or with friends and family. The kind of freedom given to the children to roam and that every adult kept an eye out for them was fantastic. A holiday for kids that has not been available for many years. The classes were informal and informative and even if you did not fancy doing it yourself you could just watch and learn. It must be the only place in Europe where small and not so small boys were encouraged to make fires.. a childhood dream come true!

As the man said, sign me up for next year! smilies/grin.gif
Brilliant!
written by Storyteller Lady , August 06, 2007
I've never been to one before - didn't know they existed - and only went because of being booked through the Society for Storytelling Discussion group but I had a really great time and an experience that most storytellers don't get: a whole lot of storytelling Virgins! We storytellers are still struggling with the public misconception that storytelling is about reading books aloud and that it's only for children. We have lost part of our culture that was a main source of continuity with the past and a painless way of transmitting our cultural and moral values on to our children. (I bet none of the kids who heard "Jenny Greenteeth" will ever go near a pond again without thinking about taking care!) It was lovely to be able to tell in just the right atmosphere and to people who wanted to listen.

I also learned so much myself and would like to thank all the teachers - specially Susanna who took pity on my incompetence with a flint and steel. Sign me up for next year too!

Is there a 2008 moot?
looking forward to it
written by custardmonkeys , April 13, 2008
we have been to 3 now - looking forward to this one. our kids loved the story telling twice a day around the fire last year. Our faves were the naturopath showing us poultices and Stuart's bushman stories. All good though. To have so many people happy to share their knowledge with us all we feel privileged to have been a part of it.
The naturopath strikes again
written by sandsnakes , April 14, 2008

I intend to do a bigger demonstration this year with more kit and a fellow naturopath (Carla Halford, runs a clinic in Shropshire and Birmingham) as a helper. It will be entitled Bush Medicine as it will also cover some simple kitchen herbal remidies, poultices and simple accupressure. I will bring a manual (sorry you have to buy it) which will cover all of the stuff we will do. I will post closer to the event what you will need. It will be best to come in pairs so you can practice on each other. I intend to do two or three sessions of about 2/3 hours each. My favourite beer is Flowers IPA and scotch is Macallum 12yr old malt (open to bribery, who me!).

I will post what is needed later on and generally gather a list of people who interested. Oh yes if you are interested Carla can do a womens health special (women only guys!. Let me know.

Zen corner
written by sandsnakes , April 18, 2008

After the fun and jolly japes last year of the pirates (ah sorry friendly fisher folk)in the naughty corner. Who I might add were throughly trounced by the the crew of the Jammy Dodger (captain aged 7). I am setting up a Zen corner based on quiet contemplation or at least quiet conversation with the odd glass of whatever. Look our for the white Zen symbol flag ( Zen symbol is a hand drawn black circle on a white background).

Its also where I will have my post of hang over herbal brew on the go in the mornings.

bushcrafting aspirations
written by squidgycub , April 18, 2008
i have never been to a bushmoot before but i'm aiming to make this year my first! bushcraft skills is quite a new interest for me, re-awakened years after childhood attempts at constructing dens, making weapons and striding off bravely into the wild woods and fields surrounding my grandparents house for adventures. smilies/cheesy.gif
and now i can't wait to start doing that sort of stuff again (hopefully slightly more successfully) learning new, interesting and useful skills from people who know their onions
thankyou bushcraft people!

Hey Bushmoot folkies!

I would really love to go to the Bushmoot but have very limited funds, is there any possibility I could come and help out at the Bushmoot (doing any jobs required) for a free ticket, food and some free time to see and learn some of the Bushcraft that is taking place? Im a hard working enthuisiastic young bean of 23 who is eager to learn as much as possible about Bushcraft

Thanks Squidgy cub smilies/cheesy.gif
