Welcome to the Barking Mad Survival School
Why 'Barking Mad'?
"Because of my passion for the great outdoors and my solitary sojourns into the hills (in all weathers), my wife described me as 'Barking Mad'. I admit that it probably helps to be slightly mad! but I thought the name would be eye catching and would sum up the spirit of people who are looking for that 'something different' experience."

Adrian Bream
Adrian is the founder and Chief Instructor at Barking Mad Survival School. He is 49 years old and lives in Cambridgeshire.
His
passion for survival started in childhood.
By the age of 15½ when he left school to join the Army,
he had already
gained a wealth of knowledge about the natural world around him.
2½ years of training on the Brecon Beacons, Black
Mountains and
surrounding areas, taught him all there was to know regarding
navigation, night
navigation and survival on the mountains. From
there he went on to serve in Northern Ireland, Germany and Canada
(where he was
fortunate enough to live amongst the Blackfoot Indians).
Since leaving the Army he has travelled extensively around the German, Austrian and Swiss Alps, Alaska, Canada and Iceland.
Prior
to setting up Barking Mad Survival School he was an instructor with the
longest
running survival school run by an ex-SAS Survival Instructor.
There he specialised in edible/medicinal plants and fungi and
was once
described as a cross between Davey Crockett and a Romany Gypsey!
To
sum up his courses in his own words:
"Life
is becoming too regulated and structured. From
the moment you're born to the time you die, somebody else influences
your every
move. People need to take time out,
relax and get back to the basics. Our
courses teach people to slow down, view the world in a different way,
learn how
to survive by using their greatest asset (the brain), combined with
knowledge of
the natural world and the resources it can provide.
Hopefully
by running my Basic Survival Courses in a relaxed and enjoyable way, I
can help
people survive in most situations they might find themselves in, and
avoid the
increasing frequent tragic deaths you read about in the newspapers."
