| Snugpak Pertex Shower Towel |
|
|
| Written by Tony Bristow | |
To begin with I was a little sceptical about these towels being able to soak up much water, but they do a fair job. Well for their size and weight they do a great job. The small mesh bag comes with 2 towels in it and I have to use them both to get dry after a shower. A third one would be useful as well if I want my hair dried. For most uses though two is very adequate. They weigh about 65g and they are about 110 x 80 cm, which for a towel is very good indeed. When they are packed away they measure about 2 x 7 x 11cm. The drying time of the towels is excellent at 15 minutes or less after being well wetted. It really is something that you can use, hang up for a little while and then pack away with no worries of it coming out stinking and damp. The towel can also be used as a filter for taking the sediment and bits out of water. I usually use a millbank bag for this but the pertex towel does a fine job. The fabric can be folded a few times, then put in the water which after soaking the fabric starts to penetrate through to end up in a suitable container. Because the towels are easy to clean a carbon layer of cold ash could be added in between the folds of the fabric. Conclusion A versatile, lightweight bit of kit that can be pressed into multiple uses beyond its original design. There may be other travel towels that absorb more but none at this weight and with this versatility. Keep it away from heat sources and it will last you a long long time Ratings Quality 9/10 Usability 9/10 Versatility 9/10 Value 7/10 (£12.50) Total 8.5/10 Copyright ©2003-2007 BushcraftUk.com Comments

I used to have a Pertex towel (still do, actually), but was disappointed at the drying ability: dabbing rather than wiping was necessary to get a good result. I've since got a bulkier soft fibre one, which I find more effective. A mesh carry pack allows it to be carried outside the rucksack to dry it off.

The jungle is a harsh environment for such an item because the tool was
