Housed in a bright, day-glow yellow case the Peli LED mini torch is one of the most versatile tools I've ever used. Its beam, operated by a simple push button on/off switch is incredibly bright and ideal for emergency use.
In the great outdoors, after the sun has sunk slowly into the west and natures night shift has begun going about its business the woodsman turns on his lantern, stokes up his fire and settles into his evening chores with a relaxed smile and contented sigh.
But what if his lantern fails him? What if an ember spat from a popping sweet chestnut log lands on his leg and burns him? Then the wise woodsmen should have an easy, reliable and immediate sort of illumination ready to hand.
Housed in a bright, day-glow yellow case the Peli LED mini torch is one of the most versatile tools I've ever used. Its beam, operated by a simple push button on/off switch is incredibly bright and ideal for emergency use. Coming attached to a neck lanyard the torch is also easily stowed and hard to lose. Another handy attachment point is the pen clip moulded onto the side. It's reasonably small (slightly larger than a maglite solitaire), it weighs next to nothing, and as such is handy for those times when your head torch can not be found. The Peli LED torch is constructed, for the most part, of plastic so it requires little maintenance and would be, therefore, an ideal addition to any emergency crash kit, large survival pack or medical kit or simply as a back up to that trusty head torch or lantern.
The test example I was sent has been used for map reading, night driving, and first aid when I needed light to remove a rather nasty splinter from a students thumb. On all occasions it was, as it is meant to be, very handy. And as a light for a first aid kit it excels being the perfect size for sticking in a kit and the perfect shape for sticking in your mouth while 'operating' hands free. And, as another bonus, it doesn't roll around when clenched in the teeth like a maglite does.
Personally, I give this torch the thumbs up - though I must admit that initially I wasn't overly enthusiastic about it. I was won over by its utility uses and its reliability. As an emergency or back up torch you could do far worse and I now carry one in my first aid kit and thus always know I'll have light to hand in an emergency without first having to search my gear when possibly time is of the essence.
Conclusion
Overall I'd give it a rating of 8/10 because it is value for money, efficient and small enough to be handy.

How many hours would it last and still give usable light?
