| Viking Ship Sails Again |
| Written by John Burton | |
The original ship is believed to have been the pinnacle of viking shipbuilding, designed to carry 60 men. Ancient skills in working wood and metal are of interest to the bushcraft community, and the new ship represents a huge achievement. Work began on the Sea Stallion in 2000, after a scale model demonstrated that the projec was feasible. 300 ancient Danish oaks and more than 7000 iron rivets were used in the construction. The team of builders are now curious to know if the vessel is capable of making the kind of journeys vikings would have made almost a thousand years ago. The 65-strong crew plan to leave Denmark on Sunday, Bushcraft UK can report.
