Foragers Wanted Print E-mail
Written by John Burton

elderflowers.pngForaging for wild food is a beloved pastime for many interested in bushcraft.  But for some, foraging has become big business.  A few years ago Miles Irving set up Forager, a small company designed to take the passion of wild food to Britain's restaurants.

And Bushcraft UK has learned that he now wants help.  Miles explains on his website, "Because we only deal in fresh British produce, availability is entirely subject to what the climate and seasons yield up from the land.  Most of what e supply is foraged in Kent, but we are developing a network of foragers elsewhere who are able to collect for us what is not available in Kent".

And it seems that many are catching the foraging bug; in a recent newspaper article foraging was described a "new outdoor activity de nos jours".

Mark Hix goes on to explain that while many are interested in getting their hands dirty looking for wild food, the taste for the real British natural cuisine is growing among restaurant goers; "In our restaurants there's a great demand for wild food", he says in The Independent.

And Forager is set up to supply that need.  Miles is clear, though, about what kind of help he needs: "Persons with nimble fingers, keen eyes, knowledge of wild food plants and time."
