Bushcraft is about being confident and comfortable in the world around us. Our
mission here at Bushcraft UK is to promote knowledge and appreciation of all
aspects of the outdoors to enable all to better enjoy, learn from and contribute
to the environment around us whilst enjoying their outdoors passion - whatever
that may be! Regardless of the specific activities we engage in, bushcraft will
help us to enhance our awareness and appreciation of the outdoors, providing
greater, safer enjoyment in a variety of conditions.
Some History
Bushcraft UK was conceived in December 2002 after I lost touch with a friend
I had met on a bushcraft course in the previous year. I had received no reply
to my emails and was disappointed at the thought we may have lost contact.
At that point it occurred to me that I should build a website so that all
the bushcraft people in the country could keep in contact with each other.
I figured that I was not the only one that was in this predicament,no longer
would we need to wonder how our 'bushcraft' friends were faring.
The site would not only help us stay in touch, it would also allow us to
build a strong community of like-minded people who could share ideas, experiences
and news. I also planned to expand it to include a regular magazine reviews,
encyclopaedia, news, family section, articles, letters from readers etc.
Over the next few months it all came together, the site, the magazine, the
members and the realisation that it had worked. A lot of thanks needs to go
to other people for all the help they provided, advice, facilities, skills,
time and money without which it would have been far more difficult!
Since that time, the site has gone from strength to strength. We've never
called attention to ourselves externally, but we have nearly seven thousand
registered, active members and 45,000 unique visitors each month. Together
we have created a great resource for those interested in what the outdoors
is really all about.
The site has changed quite a bit since the early days, some things have been
put on the back burner, like the encyclopaedia and family sections, but they'll
be back in the near future to make the site bigger and better than ever before
Our new site helps fulfil the original vision and provide an even better service
to our great community (with increased costs hopefully covered by our member
shop and advertising).
Over the years we've been through a lot of transition and some things
have changed quite a bit but we've never lost sight of where we want to
go with Bushcraft UK - The whole concept is based on being a service to the
bushcraft community, the public, education etc, providing anyone interested
in the outdoors with a place to feel at home, learn more, be with friends and
share in the wonders of the world we live in.
Welcome and enjoy!
