MAGFIRE: FIRE STARTER TINDER

I do not know if others have tried this product, but when your kit is too wet for friction firelighting, there is no silver birch around and your cotton wool is wet, this is a sure fire way to get a fire going.

Made from compressed chlorine-free paper mass and stearin (wax), the Magfire Tinder is fully biodegradable and is made from renewable and non-toxic materials with 18 strips (21 x 3cm) to a pack that costs around £3.50.  This Finnish product easily lights from the spark from a fire steel (I have not tried it with a flint and steel yet) or a match flame and each strip could light several fires with care.  Roughen up the surface of the strip to catch a spark and away you go.  The strips burn fiercely and will set alight even slightly damp wood.

i would not spend money for it!!! soaking paper mass/cardboard with melted candle wax is something you can do easily by yourself- much cheaper and as effective as any bought product!

I’m a bit of a bag junkie, partly because of my work (military) and partly because of a quest to be able to carry the right equipment for the right job in practically any situation.  I guess the ‘Holy Grail’ is effectively a bag that you instinctively grab, without thinking about it, before you go off for an adventure.

It comes with a well fitting lid, which is a bonus compared with the old aluminium version which came without a lid. It saves precious fuel and makes your water (or whatever you are preparing in it) come to a boil significantly faster.
