Site down, stressful times... by Tony Comment (0)

Stressful times, the site has been down for a few days due to a server meltdown, it’s all been reinstalled a few times and it’s proving to be a hard nut to crack, luckily there’s up to date backups so there no loss of information or posts.  I’m writing this in expectation that it’s going to be back up soon…very soon :-)

Most of the niggles we’ve had with the site over the last while

Young Fox, new tricks..... by Fox Comment (2)

I've just came back from a 3 hour fieldcraft session in the woods near my house. This was the first time I had went out on my own in a while and I was a curious as to wether I could still cook outdoors.

I carried my kit in my old web-tex assault vest and (coupled with my green norgie top, 95 combat trousers and black curved boonie hat) I looked like someone out of an Austrailian SAS photo gallery!

I went to place by the burn, at the edge of the woods, and set up camp

Fox by Fox Comment (0)
I'm a former Army Cadet Force Lance Corporal. I've been outdoors for quite a portion of my life. My dad has had me outdoors doing various activites for as long as I can remember. I've been shooting and hunting since age 11 and have learned skills which allow me to thrive outdoors over the years. These I have only started taking seriously as of the past year or 2 and since starting my college course in Countryside Management my mammal, bird and tree ID has improved. ACF fieldcraft

Loch Chon by Chainsaw Comment (4)

Joined some of the guys last weekend for a wee sneaky overnighter, most of the guys had been there the Friday night but I couldn't make it so unfortunately I missed the rain...

The wee fella has been hounding me for weeks to have a camp out in hammocks and thankfully the guys didn't mind if I brought him along so it was chainsaw juniors first hammock night out, a bit of an adventure for him.

We got there just after lunchtime and after a wee trudge about trying

Catching up by Tony Comment (0)

Heck, it's been an age since I wrote on here, the time just flies by.  It's been a busy year though with site changes, moving servers, new baby (Called Jenna, she's lovely) moved house, converted the garage and all sorts of other things.

I'm excited by spring really getting on, summer starting to get a hold and the world getting really green, it seems like just a few days ago that the trees were still bare and now they're alive again with leaves popping out

With kit packed we were off on the 3hr walk it took to get there. Me and my brother as kids used to go every weekend to camp.

we found our spot and started to collect fire wood, kindling and tinder in the form of birch bark shredings. back to camp we put up the tarps and i put up my hammock whilst my brother made a bed of furn branches.

Then came the fire split logs down then  birch bark layer for the shreded birch bark tinder. One strike on my fire stick and fire was lit

Early Spring Update by Pablo Comment (0)

As I write this I'm looking at the forecast for the weekend. Snow! What's all that about after the really mild weather we've had reently which almost heralded the early onset of Spring.

Well, things happened quite early around here. First to show were the Snowdrops of course then Dog's mercury creeping up through the undergrowth and then Celandine in the warmer areas. Young nettles are now appearing. It will soon be time for nettle tea and soup.

I've been lucky enough to sleep out for a couple of nights about every two weeks
