Site down, stressful times... by Tony

Stressful times, the site has been down for a few days due to a server meltdown, it’s all been reinstalled a few times and it’s proving to be a hard nut to crack, luckily there’s up to date backups so there no loss of information or posts.  I’m writing this in expectation that it’s going to be back up soon…very soon :-)

Most of the niggles we’ve had with the site over the last while have been fixed which is great news for all, we’re still moving forward with our plan to make the site better and this is being worked on as we speak.

Even though I’m sitting here frustrated I can hear the birds singing and it’s a lovely sunny day which helps me realise how blessed we are in the UK, sure there’s other places around the world that I would love to go to but I do think that we have something special as well, everything is oozing life, down the lane the elderflowers are coming out in full bloom so some of them will soon be a lovely cordial, that’s just cool.

I’m reviewing a dehydrator and I’m looking forward to collecting some edibles to see how they do in the dehydrator, fruits and berries and maybe some rabbit and squirrel jerky…we’ll see!

I’ve been reading the news about the knife situation and they way that they want to clamp down on knife crime etc, which I think it excellent, the tools that we use shouldn’t be used to harm people, I do get frustrated though seeing pictures of fancy daggers, sheath knives and the like being portrayed as the knives used in these crimes when it’s mostly kitchen knives and craft knives.  I think that we’re going to have to be even more careful to be squeaky clean when it comes to how we use and carry knives.  There’s so much misunderstanding about it amongst the general population, in some ways I’m lucky as we’re a bit rural here but for other this could be a real nightmare.  Once again this is the few messing it up for the many that responsibly carry knives.  I still carry my penknife and will for as long as I can, I use it all the time from opening bags of cement to peeling fruit and most of the people I’m around borrow it for all sorts of tasks, indispensible, especially for whiling away the time carving while waiting for people in the car…yeah, my Landy looks like a sawmill :-)

And don’t get me started on the price of fuel, over £100 to fill my motor now...they’ve definitely managed to curb my travelling, I think the furthest I’m going for a while is to the BushMoot in Aug.

Wow, at last the site is up and running again, I wrote this about 12 hours ago and it’s been a slog of a day, there’s already 170 people on the forums so it’s getting back into the swing of things right quick which is good.  Another glitch in life hopefully behind us…
