| Winter progress by Pablo | ||
We're now well into winter. So far it's been quite mild with only a couple of days frost, so I've not really been able to test out my "wool" revolution. I've swopped out a couple of clothing items (noticably undergarments) for wool products. It's certainlymore comfortable.

I've managed to get out every weekend to do a bit of tracking and I was pleased to follow a badger trail this weekend for about 4o yards.
My intial success of getting close to deer in the summer has fallen off during the winter. I keep getting glimpses at about 50 yards but they soon spook and leap off. With no leaf or undergrowth cover, you certainly have to stalk more carefully. Either that or lay up and let them come to you.
I made a reasonably successful Bucksaw last week at a meet. For someone who doesn't class themselves as a woodworker by any means I was quite chuffed with it. It sawed its way through 4 inches of tough old Hornbeam quite well. I still have a few adjustments to make as the blade was bending a bit at one end.

I'm still using the hammock and tarp even though it's colder. You just can't beat this for getting close to the environment. The thermarest is enough insulation unless it's really windy and cold, then the coat goes underneath as well. I might try a bit of ground dwelling before the winter's over. Those hooped bivis look like a good idea.
I don't know about you, but I think winter's progressing quickly. There's still lots to do and see even though it seems that nature's shut down. Wrapping up warm and sitting closer to the fire is all part of it. Isn't it?
Cheers,
Pablo.
