A newbies eating, sleeping and light kit by Chainsaw

Hi All,

Just a list of my other kit that I have accumulated, first off is my lights and torches etc

On the left is a cheapy headlight from Aldi or Lidl or something, takes 3 AAA and I can't remember changing the batteries on it ever, there is 8 LEDs but it's not that powerful, enough for pottering about under the tarp of an evening but not much more. The second item is an old AA Maglite with the LED mod added to it, again not the most powerful but relatively handy. Lastly is one of 3 wee LED keyring things. I removed the standard keyring fittings and put quick release clips on 2 of them (the missus nicked the other one) I have one on my ruck to help me see inside when I'm delving and the other is on my big bum bag (BBB) What's not shown is my Surefire G2 which normally lives in the car. It's a great torch, pretty powerful but only about 3 inches long. Battery life is poor though, only lasts about an hour. I'd also like to get an Uco candle lantern, the light from the candle is really nice, a lot better that LEDs.

Secondly we have eating and drinking kit. I don't usually hump all of this kit about, but these are the options I have

Top left is my waterbottle pouch, in this goes my crusader cup, cooker and my water bottle and cup as well as my homemade lid, stirrer, some greenheat, a chain and my holder for when cooking over a fire, I normally chuck in some coffee sachets too.

Next to this is a couple of orange water bottles from Aldi and a collapsable bucket from a pound shop. This came with a sponge from the car section. On the next row is my spork and a couple of mess tins, my nice stainless set and another pound shop buy which I use for mixing etc. Next to this is a cast iron non stick skillet which I use for frying and a grating thing. I picked both of these up at a car boot sale, the grate is good for a bannock cooling rack or for putting on a stick and using it directly in the fire. Bottom right is my Ikea hobo stove and bottom left is an ace wee butane stove. This fella has it's own pressure vessel and you use lighter refills to charge it. It comes with it's own pizeo sparker and will burn full on for about half an hour, it boils a full crusader cup in about 4 minutes, great bit of kit. It normally lives in a resealable plastic box that doubles as a food container when the stove is in use. What's missing from this picture is my millbank bag and some aquaclear tabs and I've still got to make a spoon and a spatula. tsk tsk call yourself a bushcrafter!

Lastly we have my sleeping kit, a bit erm 'summery' at the moment, still trying to figure out how to make it slightly warmer for the winter.

The bag is a Vango Ultralite 400 rated 3-4 season with a Comfort Temp down to +1ºC and and Extreme Temp -14ºC (I think I'd die if it went to -14ºC!!!!) What's missing from this piccie is my goretex sox I have for cycling, great for keeping the tootsies warm and my regular airic from alpkit. Also shown is my issue goretex bivvi and my DD kit, a travel hammock, the one with the midgie net and also a 3x3m tarp. I need to get some karabiners for the hammock, but I've not yet. Here's what it looks like set up.

Well, that's about all I have for now,

Cheers,

Alan
