Collecting Birch Sap by Nightwalker Comment (0)

Its that time of year again, the sap starts rising in the tree's, preparing themselfs to spring into life. As I sit here drinking Birch-sap I thought I would post up about my nightly activities... Unfortunatly I've been very busy lately and my oppertunity to get out and collect some sap was left to last night, which was a bit of a shame as I

Rabbit Stew by Nightwalker Comment (1)

Stew Pot on FireSaturday, myself and a friend decided to get out into the local wood and cook up a hansome Rabbit Stew. My first encounter with Rabbit meat was at the Summer Bushmoot (2007) and I didn't really enjoy the taste.

Scott my friend was sure it was down to the way it was cooked and he was keen to reintroduce me to this

Introducing a Brother to Bushcraft by Nightwalker Comment (3)

Today I got the chance to introduce my younger brother to Bushcraft, at nearly seven I thought it was time for him to venture into the woods and learn a few things.

Initially it did confirm my thoughts; that children these days dont visit woods or nature nearly enough. He thought Woodlands was going to be the 'Woodlands adventure park'!

Anyway, it was a wet, winters day in

More grinding today, shaping the knife more and taking the crap off the sides. I've still got a couple of ml to take off the sides to get it to my desired thickness and the file/teeth marks will probably come off with that work.

I've got the bevel-edge to put on, drill the holes through the handle and then shape some Oak wood down for my handle.

Making a Knife for the first time! (part2) by Nightwalker Comment (0)

smallfile2.jpg

Well with a bunch of old files that myself and a friend collected we went to work and started playing around with them. I started playing around with the smallest yet chuckiest file with a small blade in mind, only to find after spending a good time on it I find that my friend intended it to be his tool of use! So I was back to the drawing board, lol.

Anyway

Lately myself and a freind have been inspired by GreenPete's video on how to make a knife. We have been collecting some right odds & sods; we gathered stuff like.. old files, sausepans, frying pans, pipe, hair-dryer motor, battery, angle-grinder etc. We have made our own little custom forge to heat our steel up and then quench. We're taking it steady and basically going through the process that greenpete
