Making a Knife for the first time! (part4) by Nightwalker

My First Bushcraft Knife Complete! - (well 99% done :p) I've got some final sharpening and then some polishing left to do.

my first knife

Specs
Steel : Made using an old file (01 Tool Steel)
Blade : 3.5mm thick. 95mm long.
Handle : 105mm
Overall : 200mm
Handle : Oak from the log pile, 4mm brass-bar. Thehandle is very broad but then again so are my hands, I might see about trimming it down after I have had some practical use with it.
Finish : Linseed oil (Soaked in two sessions; about 30hrs total)

This is what the above knife started its life as:

You can find more detail and photos of my knife here on its thread:

Im very proud of my first production. I have never done any steel work like this before. The process has made me learn how to use new tools and with a friend I made our own custom forge (see here ) I've enjoyed the whole process and cant wait to make another. I would like to thank Greenpete for inspiring me to make this and to BCUK members for help and advice! And lastly my girlfriend claire for putting up with the mess.

The blade is lovely - to me it looks more like a piece of slate-coloured stone, maybe like flint or something, than metal. Maybe it's just the photo but it seems to have a rock quality about it smilies/smiley.gif

Thanks for your comment. I think it is because of patching abrasion marks from wet and dry etc. You can see more photos of the knife here:
