Last week i went camping with craig(a mate) and my dog fimble. A collie cross lab with a tint of retriever.
We arrived around 18:00 , went and got a nice pile of wood while craig got the tent and camp sorted.
By 19:00 we had settled down with a brew and dinner(rice for me)
By 22:00 the sun had set and a sheet of fog had covered everything ,we put some nice pre split logs on the fire had our usual mindless chatter when all of a sudden we heard some hotgun rounds gooff.
We could tell they were not to far off. Now this place is infested with rabbits and pheasents so it wasnt uncommon. We ignored them i started to whittle some wood and sharpen my knive craig done well nothing.
Come midnight i topped up the fire to see us through for the majority of the night with some nice sycamore. When fimble my dog made to the top of the verge onlooking the bottem field, she sat there for a bit staring at something to which i payed little attenion to. 5-10 Minutes later she was still staring I went over and followed what she was looking at to see an animal, with a white cotton tail and the size of just bigger than a great dane when it clicked a deer.
I whispered what i say to craig and he had a looked and confirmed it we started to sneek up getting around 50 m away when very anoyingly craig phone went of the deer started to movre and so did my dog fimble chased it coming with in 1 if not less meters of it when the deer turned tighltly and fimble lost it in the fog. Fimble had for the most of the day been rabbiting with us so that did tire her some now considering shes coming up for 6.]
Fimble came back looking rather dissapointed but in the morning she was was happer to find our snares had caught 3 rabits.
Moral of the story brake craigs phoine and bring our air rifle next time.
