Queegs starter for ten by queeg9000

This is the first time I've even considered writng a blog about myself, and what I get up to, on a hopefully regular basis, so I thought I'd just let you know what I'm up to at the moment.

For starters, I'm in the process of making a smoker, along the lines of the ones made by Mr Dick Strawbridge on "It's not easy being green".

It starts off with an old container, on the show Dick uses a 40 gallon drum, but on a walk along the Bristol channel coastline, on Sunday I came across a 25/30 gallon drum, and thats how it all began.

After checking the drum wasn't full of anything too nasty, the top needs to come off it, to do this I used a cordless drill with a 6mm bit, and made a hole near one edge, then set to the bottom of the drum with my jigsaw.

After cutting the top out, On the advice again of Mr Strawbridge, I started a good fire in the drum to get rid of any nasty residue!

Whilst the drum was having a good old burn through, I set about the bottom piece I'd just cut out, this piece is used as a smoke diffuser, set about 1/3 up the drum from the bottom end, it helps the smoke spread

about nicely inside.

This is the bottom section complete with holes, I turned it over after, then with a 13mm drill deburred all of the holes, that piece took a while I can tell you. This evening I've given it a good clean, and rubbed off all of the rust on the outside, and given it a coat of hammerite, just to keep the outside rust free,  I'll post some more pictures as I go along, but for now, thats as far as I've got....................more to come...Steve
