    Default Old axe manufacturers

    There are a few threads on here that mention Elwell and Brades as manufacturers of good axes from back-in-the-day.

    What other old manufacturers are there whose name or logo should signify a good quality tool (present condition notwithstanding).

    You know: the sort of thing that has you reaching for your pocket with an air of exaggerated nonchalance when the car boot seller says £1

    Brades..Marples(shamrock brand)..Whitehouse 'hedgehog brand',..Mathieson..

    To name but a few.

    Gilpin and Eagle Edge Tool Co are also superior from the edge-smiths collective of the Black Country.
