    Default Which hammock to get?

I would really like to get out soon and for my Sleeping and Shelter I am thinking of carrying:

    Tarp
    Hammock
    Foam mat
    Sleeping bag

I have a sleeping bag and mat and my son has a tarp i can use, can anyone recommend me a hammock that packs very small?
I really like this as its low cost and very small and light but i cannot find them in the UK. http://store.grandtrunkgoods.com/camoflauge-hammock

    Thank you.

I swear by my hammock from http://www.ddhammocks.com/
I picked up a 3/4 inflatable sleep mat from Go Outdoors for about £17.

Have a look through the classifieds section as there are often some for sale.

    Enjoy!

I have used a friends DD Hammock and it was quite heavy and big when packed. In this link you can see the size of the hammock from the ling below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X32X9IdFgfs

I would like a double layered hammock standard length but really want something light and relatively small..

Check out twhammocks on ebay - they have a range of ultralite hammocks. Unfortunately he's on holiday at the moment so he seems to have removed all listings. ukhammocks.co.uk is also worth a look.

I recently bought an ultralight hammock from TW on ebay, £12.99 + £2.70 postage. Cannot fault it, good price, construction, packs very small & lightweight.

How do you find it for size? The only bad things I've read on reviews is the length. I see the hammock is over 7 ft long(240cm) but will it fit someone around 6 ft comfortably?

    Thank you

I purchased a Highlander trekker hammock, it folds a lot smaller and weighs less than the DD. However it does not have a 2 layer bottom (to slide in a mat) nor the fly mesh. But otherwise a very light alternative

I'd recommend UkHammocks or a Warbonnet, the Nomads Land XXL is a great buy too

DD hammocks! all the way! I swear by them to all who ask. And they are reasonably priced!

I am 5'10' and find it comfortable, 6' should be ok as well. I didnt notice when I ordered it that they rate it at 'about 80kg' which I believe is around 12.75 stone, I am just over 13 stone but it seems plenty strong enough. They do make other longer / stronger ones.
    Hope that helps

How much do these go for around? Sorry for multiple questions its just i dont want to spend a lot if i dont like sleeping in a hammock, will be my first ever camp alone so want something good but not expensive if it does not work out for me.

    Thank you.

+1 on UKHammocks as a source. I don't own any of thier hammocks (yet) but if the other gear is anything to go by you'll be fine.

I made my own from rip stop nylon, double skinned with an opening for a Sleep mat, price was Six metres of rip stop and a little webbing.
Good luck on the new buy.

I bought a Tenth Wonder XL for my first hammock as it wasn't a lot of money to lose if I hated it. Have since progressed to a TW Hornet XL as I did enjoy the benefits.

I bought a tenth wonder hammock [the ultra light one - 370g I think] and was impressed by the construction. Again I'm 5,10, 12[ish] stone and am well happy trusting my weight to it. Seemed long enough for me, but as yet I've only slung in in the garden - not spent an entire night in it yet - although I did fall a sleep in it for a couple of hours because I got a bit too relaxed

Having seen the construction I'd be happy to have a go at making one myself - and maybe will when I get a bit of time...

It's cheap enough [even for me] to get without feeling too guilty

I've had a Hennersey for a while and find it a real pain. The bottom entrance system makes sorting out your sleeping arrangements really difficult. Been looking at the Eureka Chrysalis Hammock Tent, looks well cool.

Hennesy explorer delux - at 6ft 4 the extra room is a must, weighs in a 1.5kg wish i got the hyperlight version now which is around 800 - 900g. Brilliant for camping on rough ground and keeping the mozzies away. The snake skins allow for real easy set up and pack away ( with a bit of practice...) also like to add that I got the zipped version. which makes life easier and means it can work as a seat (with you head behind or in front of the net bug depending). The tarp is enough to keep me and my kit dry and have camped out in rain storms with no issues.

I've had my DD for two years no probs. I changed the webbing for some lightweight 5 mm rope. I find it packs small and weighs in at 600g. I'm thinking of changing to the one with the integrated mossie net
