I'll probably only be able to make the Saturday night this time.
There was talk at the last meet of possibly doing a group buy on a large camp kettle that we can keep with the chute.
Is anyone interested?

Oh hang on, Aluminium, don't fancy that.
I had a fantastic time at the Moot & got back on Monday night. While I was there I was thinking I should have put a thread up, so thanks for doing that Bill. I will be there from Friday to Sunday:

Sorry can't make it this time
Nowt wrong with an ali kettle Bill, lots of trangia kettles last time and they're a heck of a lot thinner than camp kettles. I'm up for one. Edit: I see the Kirtley kettles are out now Rico. What price did the man agree to? £40 delivered on the bay of fleas.
Do I remember Pete saying he would price up the "seconds" climbing rope? I can't understand what was wrong with the £9 utility rope made from desiccant fabric in the rain![]()

Statistically, 6 out of 7 dwarves are not Happy.
I'll be up for kettle GB. Might make the meet but won't know until last minute & might have to make a midnight flit (aka. "doing a Hugo")
You might call it doing a Hugo, I call it being unwell and going home to the comforts it offers.
Group buy on a kettle a, there will still be people who will still not bring any water to put in it, but want to use it, so I am not in favour, we could end up with group everything and somebody has to lug all the stuff around, washing drying airing, that's my tuppence worth.![]()
Hugo.
I didn't wish to mock, Hugo, sorry if I caused any offence.
If Paul is doing us a discount on these kettles I might buy one myself anyway
Will not be able to attend this one :-(
Paul isn't going to have the kettles for sale before the next meet, so if we want one by then, it'll have to come from another retailer.
Like spandit, i'm also thinking of getting one for myself (only a 2.5 litre though) which i'll bring with me on the Saturday .
Hugo, the water shouldn't be so much of an issue when we're on pitches with standpipes.
As for storing group kit, Jack and I were discussing this. We thought that perhaps a storage unit in East Grinstead would be a good idea. They have pin number locks so there would be no need to pass a key around. I don't know what the rent is on one though.

Where was it then as we didn't find one even before on the previous meet.
Hugo.
To the right of the chute when you approached from the road. The kids and I found it on Sat when we turned up but there were loads of containers and thought they had been filled there. Used of our all 20 litres though.

It's only a suggestion! And I meant something like a locker, not a warehouse or shipping container. We were just trying to think of a solution to having the gear local and accessible. Nobody seems to want the burden of looking after the chute, and for the last couple of meets, Jack has ended up taking it back to Surrey with him which is not really ideal, especially if he can't make it for whatever reason.
I'll be able to home the chute again by September's meet when I get my free weekends back. I was going to buy one of those kettles too for my weekend stuff, so there's no reason it can't come to the meets after September (Greenman have got them for sale).
Cheers
Simon
They're £35 in the UK. If you bought one from Makro in SA, they're under £12 (for a 5L version!!)

I never get lucky with the duty though on imported stuff, it always ends being nearly the same price for me.
Cheers

Hmmm! If we can wait Simone is going to SA for 3 weeks in December. Sure I could persuade her to use it as a handbag for the return journey ;-).
(Maybe not then, she didn't see the funny side. Lol)

There are these types of kettle, which are pricy but we could do a Group Buy if we had enough people interested. They do 9 Pints:

Greenman Bushcraft have the Paul Kirtly ones in stock:
2.5L for £25:

5L for £34.95

I like the idea of a GB on the 5L one if people are up for it...

Is Jack coming to next week's meet? I could do with my bits back, that he kindly looked after for me after my early departure last time.
