Suggestions where to get watch battery changed

Hi mate,

There's a little place in Castleford market called watch-wise......... I'm sure theyd be happy to change your battery, they'll probably break some buttons off, forget the seal, shorten the strap, then 'forget' they ever saw you or destroyed your watch.

Forgot to say I'm in Hampshire, the watch is water resistant to 10bar.

I tell you how good he is; I worry about when he dies where will i go with my watches

Hi,
You could try replacing it yourself. There are loads of places on the web that sell watch batteries. Just pop the back off & take out one of the old batteries. Google the number / code on there & see who stocks them.
It should just be a direct drop in replacement, but some watches need to be "jump started" by shorting with a bit of wire between two contacts. This only usually applies to digital watches though. If you put in the new batteries & the watch doesn't immediately start going, get a thin bit of wire (a bristle from a wire brush bent in half works!) and try touching various pins / contacts around where the battery sits, checking the watch each time, & you will find that eventually it will start working again. When this is done, just pop the back on & you're good to go. Saved yourself a bit of cash an all...
PS, not sure how this would affect the seal, might knacker it, but then again might be OK...

I have a professional divers watch waterproof to 1000m with pressure release valves and allsorts of other malarkey

I had a hell of a time finding someone to replace the battery and have it retested to depth. In the end I was rescued by H. SAMUELS the high street jeweller who sent it off to a specialist and it came back all done with a test certificate for £40 !!

Just take the back off , than with the battery number go to Maplins and get a new battery and fit.

Just don't touch the battery or inside of the watch with bare hands.

Your fingerprints leave traces behind which in the wrong place effectively make a high resistance tracking short across the battery. Although high resistance, more energy leaks across that path than is used by the watch. Result, the battery is flat in a few months. I (and many people) have rusty fingers, If I touch iron it shows rusty marks within a few minutes.

Wear rubber gloves or use plastic insulating tweezers to handle the job.

I have used The WatchSAhop in dorset for a couple of my watches and they offer a very good service. Unfortunately they can no longer do my diving watch which is a shame as they were half the price of Citizen...

i bought a watch repair kit from maplins and do them myself. Be warned though, if your watch is under warranty, most manufacturers will not honour it unless it has been done by either themselves or a certified repair outlet (meaning expesive and takes ages), if it's out of warranty, do it your self and save a fortune, plenty of on-line tutorials to help with the resealing etc.
