    Default Flint & steel success!

Just made fire using flint & steel (that Tengu kindly gave me in the GIOT).

Took a while & had to smash the flints with a sledgehammer to get some decent edges but my homemade charcloth caught a spark eventually & with a freshly picked leylandii tinder bundle, I soon had an inferno! Chuffed to bits, I reckon it's easier than a bow-drill but still a challenge

Good elth  gives you a buzz doesn't it.
Now practice using the spine of your knife. You'll be amazed at your achievement even more when you can produce fire from knife n rock, especially wi natural tinder

Judging at the mess it's made of the steel, I'd be reluctant to use a knife. Will have a go with cramp balls next, I think as charcloth feels a bit "cheaty"

Good work, you'll have to show me next time. Never tried myself. There's a chalk spoil heap on the field next to ours, will have a look for some flint in there.
