Default Hand drill woes (going ccrazy etc).

O.k. So, I've got some nice well seasoned lime for the baseboard. That's fine. I've tried commercial dowl wood for the drill (was useless). I've tried some hazel (no good). Then I tried some bamboo cane.. Got real hot 'but it's taking ages...'
The guy's on youtube are mostly american's and they all use mullein?? I don't think we have it in this country do we?? Would like to get some though.. When I was a kid I used cats tail and always got at least some smoke...
What do you guy's recommend? It's driving me crazy!

p.s. Really not interested in the bow drill..
p.p.s. Yes I am giving it some elbow grease.

That guy's good... But I'm sure it's all about having the right wood. Science and all that business!
