    Default kidney shaped mugs?

Looking around at kit a lot of the mugs seem to be kidney shaped, there must be a reason for this shape but can't figure it out.

The kidney shaped water canteen fits into them better that way, else you'd need to use a hammer and could damage one or the other.

I think the military water bottles are kidney shaped so they sit more comfy against your back when in there pouches(though i could be wrong)

I would imagine, but stand to be corrected, that it could be a better shape to wear on a webbing belt as part of daily essential carry kit.
We are the sum total of all our ancestors before us, when we meet they meet. Play nice.

Because most people buttocks aren't flat but have a natural curve. The kidney shape follows that curve... as has been said already.

that kidney shape of the U.S. canteen and cup follow the shape of your hip/backside...they lay better against those areas than a round one or oval shape...vince g. 11B INF...
