    Default heat treatment and bevels

    hiya guys , ive got a friend thats off to do their fifth and final tour of the sandbox and im making him a combat knife , i can do most of the work but i cant get the bevels and heat treatment done properly , does anyone have any suggestions as to whom the best person to ask for this service , many thanks everyone

    What type of grind do you want to put on it? and whats the steel?

    something like a scandi mate , the steel is 3mm 316 stainless

    I could do the grind for you, but 316 stainless isn't a knife steel. Its marine grade stainless, i use it for pins and bolsters. Very corrosion resistant, but wont harden. Its also so difficult to work with it defies belief. Put it this way, its easier to work hardened 01 that that stuff.

    You want to be on the lookout for stainlesses such as, RWL -34, 12c27, or 440, well these are the most common as knife steels.

    any idea where i would be able to get some or some 01 from mate at the cheapest possible price?

    Don't know if they're the cheapest, but I think Cromwells will sell what you're after. Give them a google!

    ive looked at cromwells mate , i cant see anything wide enough for what i need

    i was going to post pics of my progress mate as and when i can , im looking forward to doing it , its like the tops alaskan harpoon but beefier lol

    the knife isnt actually 65 mm wide but its got a curve in the handle lol
