    Default Helinox backpackers chair.

Has anyone seen the above ?, its still heavy at just under a kilo, but looks like a good idea if not in a rush to get anywhere.

I had a quick sit on one about six months ago and found it very comfortable ~ one of the bits of feedback I gave their representative was that it would be a good idea to look to preventing / limiting soft ground penetration .

    BTW, they won't be cheap

I tried the chair indoors and on a solid surface BUT (imo) the foot plugs aren't likely to be able to spread the load well enough to prevent sinking on soft ground. Plenty of opportunities to think around the issue though .

IIRC I think they were aiming to retail (in the UK) for £60 to £70 (But it's a while ago and I could be very wrong) ~ And, even at a bit more, I'd still be tempted .

Yes, the grey bits are mesh ~ which is one of the ways they've reduced the weight.

I own the same design chair, but it is slightly different. It's called the Mantis by Alite. Google "Alite Mantis" and you'll see it. I look forward to purchasing the Helinox in the next few weeks (the only USA source is Big Agnes, and they're out of stock) and doing a YouTube comparison. From the specs, which may or may not be accurate, the Helinox sits a little bit higher off the ground, which I think would be a good thing. We'll see. As far as the feet penetrating the soft ground, yep, that's what they do, and to be expected unless the manufacturers wanna put a small trekking pole basket at the end of the legs. Personally, I think I'll prefer the more rounded feet of my Alite Mantis because they don't tear holes in my nylon picnic blanket. The Helinox's feet look like they would, and provide no discernible benefit. I look forward to comparing the two. By the way, the Mantis is very comfortable for my 5'6"/150lb frame, but it's a chore to get up out of the chair. That's why the Helinox "may" be better. The back on the Mantis comes up higher, though, which is a good thing. We'll see......

There's no head rest on this? On my simple T-rest seat I can rest my head against the mat at the back. I've even fallen asleep in it. Don't think that would be possible in this.

The Kermit chair http://www.kermitchair.com/ appears to be very popular with mororcyclists. And you can get leg extensions if getting out of a low chair is a problem.
