Hi all, been thinking about a cheap, simple stove for use in maybe a polish lavuu or entrance to a tarp or teepe.
I ground the lip of the lower bread tin which enables the two to clip together meaning no fixings. I used a jigsaw to cut the hole for the flue but elongated it slightly to allow for the angled vent which also holds it in place. The flue is a long can which held chocolate pretzels which even I couldn't eat. I cut a semi circle for the burn hole.
boiled a pan of water in reasonable time and kicks off a fair bit of heat.
obviously just a very basic start and needs developing....
was thinking rolled up rad reflector (just seen an ad for it at bandq) or similar to extend the flue with some mesh as a spark arrester. The flue will need a seal of some sort and maybe rig up a pole to support it when extended.
Anyway, some food for thought.....

Looks good so far. Fit a plate below the flue (throat plate?) to reduce the flames out of the flue

that's an impressive set of flames out of the chimney... and you want to put it in a polish lavu?

Its a good idea, just need a bit of refining, looks like a mortar at the moment, especialy with those flames coming out.

Hi, thanks for the comments. no, I wouldn't be firing flames into a Lavuu, especially as I don't have one...the idea though is that the flue would be extended and vented out of a shelter.
Ive looked at a few similar projects on the go and thought it would be fun to start an ideas thread that might improve on them with the emphasis on cheap and easy! I'll try and get some time today and put up some better pics.

I like the long bits of wood sticking out the front. One problem of small stoves is how much wood you need to cut so small. you could lay a piece of would sideways to partially restrict the air flow, but maybe not in a tent.

Dont know if these pics work but maybe someone can help me out. The stuff I used for the flue is from an old catering can and is really not suitable, too heavy and hard to form, so maybe I will pop to BandQ. Obviously needs to be a lot longer but you get the gist. Water came close to boiling but I gave up at the expense of burning my door bench!
poundland do cans of biccies which are easy to slot together or maybe beer cans top and tailed. could be anchored with some tent pegs and a spacer to stop it scorching the earth but a proper pole should stop it wobbling. They also do silicone trivets which might be useful around the exit point.
weighs around 700g so far so with a bit of thought could make a portable heater under a kilo and for a few quid. Or you could go posh and get the nice stainless trays and pasta cans from tkmaxx.
like I say though, thought it might be interesting to generate a few ideas and I'm unlikely ever to put it into practice but hopefully others will improve on it and put to good use.

Nice that it can nest together to pack away and light too. Have you thought about a damper in the flue??
