anyone?
I was following some tracks of a stag in Wareham, and stumbled across a Parachute Teepee and a Lean-to! in a clearing near the north end of the forest![]()
didn't have my camera to take pics![]()

...and I'm finding the remains of leaf shelters all over the New Forest when I'm out. Nice to see kids out in the forest again instead of vandalising bus shelters I guess!!
I agree!!
I wanted to say well done!!
they had a cracking camp setup!
Was it windy over there this afternoon? I'm in Mudeford today and i was planning on flyfishing in the sea at Worbarrow bay this evening, but it was too windy here, so assumed it would be the same there. Wandered around the Burley enclosures instead near Markham river, one of my favourite forest spots, with the dog. Couldn't find any decent size chestnuts yet, but plenty of little puffballs!
it was pretty still in wareham today
lost track of time
started at 9am, fell asleep under a birch tree in the afternoon at 3pm and woke at 4![]()
saw two sika stags, one about 3 the other 5 years old.
also saw some young hinds
and lots of grey squirrels
yep, loads of greys my end too, plus a few herds of deer yesterday (bad grammar or what?) in the usual places.

Stoddy ,
There is a company that run courses out in wareham forest some where . I have also found log piles covered with a camo tarp off the beaten tracks up that way .

Stoddy, Spacemonkey et al,
Are there any restrictions for wild camping in Wareham forest (as there is within the New Forest)?
Thanks
David
If I’m uncomfortable, I’m doing it wrong!
I belive that most of it is owned by the forestry commision and what isn't is privately owned . So it would depend on exactly where you were thinking of going as to whos permision you would need . I am almost certain that you would get a "no" from the forestry commision mind .

better to beg forgiveness, than to ask permission![]()
just do it!
I have camped, walked all round wareham(covertly)
I always pick up other peoples rubbish!
I even found an old bath once(Not exactly bio-degradable)
never seen a Ranger yet (or tracks of any rangers)
just leave it neat and tidy, then nobody can complain!
I know people will disagree with me, but the people who frequent this forum seem like responsible people, who appreciate Outdoor Living, and who look after and respect "The Nature"
I will be walking around wareham on Saturday (to avoid womens talk at home)
might even camp there![]()
Me and a few friends have used wareham forest on more than one occasion to...urm, wild camp. Use it as a kinda testing ground for new kit etc...Oh BTW The fort there is amazing especially when the mists rolls in during the night.

As far as rangers and permission. Saw none and didnt ask.
But didnt leave a trace of our being there as is the code.
So as far as I'm concerned all's cool in the gang...![]()
Was thinking of somewhere in the New Forest for a weekend soonish, how strict are they? and any suggestions of a good site?
Goat boy,
just a heads up M8. The Royal Navy Survival school use the New forest a lot. Some of their training takes place over week ends. The lads there are generally Ok, just be carefull of stumbling into a Mil Ex. Enjoy the forest
Sorry guys, but I'm really surprised at the amount of people who seem happy to break the law here. Yes, I agree it's a PITA to find somewhere to go camping these days, but simply ignoring the laws and just going anyway will only put the rest of us in a bad light when you do get caught. I know for a fact that people in The New Forest are caught every year as I know guys who work for the FC and they make a point of prosecuting to the fullest extent that they can. At the end of the day, the only way to get places to camp is to show that we are responsible and being responsible does not include breaking the law. Earlier this year, geocachers across the country proved that it can be done when the FC came to agreement with regards to sight caches on FC land, something they had always refused permission for. This was only achieved by a lot of dialogue between the cachers and the FC and only happened because the cachers behaved responsibly and paid attention to what the FC was asking. There's no reason why, given time, the same can't happen for us, but it wont if people insist on breaking the law
