Default US army wool sleeping bag info needed!

    Hi guys,
can anyone tell me something about these U.S. Army wollen sleeping bags?
Are they any good in keeping you warm or should I go for a woolen blanket? I already have the outerbag for this sleeping bag and was wandering if I should complete it or not. It will be used, but weight isn't much of an issue.

I have one. The answer is they are a good all-rounder. Mine weighs around 1.7kg and is about as warm as a snugpak micro which is 600g or so lighter. I like wool so I enjoy using mine, but as regards warmth to weight they can't compete with modern down or synthetic bags. Bombproof though and you don't have to worry about getting it wet. If you're not worried about weight, they are ideal for late spring through to autumn in the UK.

I got mine off ebay, can't remember how much exactly but it wasn't too expensive.

There are some for sale in the US now at variable prices and conditions. I got mine from the UK. Its worth keeping an eye on ebay as they do crop up every now and then over here.

That's why it could be better to wait until one comes up in Europe.

The wool sleeping bag was issued to replace the two blankets that the doughboys used to carry. It was deemed to be as warm.
They also come with a water repellent sateen cover.
