Default PItures- Smetimes you see em sometimes you dont!

Why is it that pictures sometimes display within a thread and other times show as links (or attachments)? See the following link as an example.

    http://www.bushcraftuk.com/community...6&page=1&pp=10

You got grahoom's pics on page 1 then you got my attachments on page 2!

Why? What am I doing differently?

    Thumbs up

It's because you can either attach images (using the bottom section of the post window, "manage attachments") like you did. Which will upload images from your drive simply to the bcuk server for people to view.

Or actually embed them into the message window, using the icon above the post window ( looks like mountains and a sun).
Doing this way will display the picture directly in the message, however, you need to know where the image is located on a online server, many people use imageshack, to host these.

I guess, you could do both, upload the image as an attachment, then find out the link then edit the post and add it in the message window using the insert image icon. .. it's an idea

    Carlo,

    Thanks for that.

I thought that was the case but wanted to be sure I wasn't doing something wrong.

    tried your suggestion of uploading the image to bcuk server than inserting an image but all that happens is a link appears, see;

    yep, i see..
Since the forum converts the page attachment.php and pulls in the image link from the database.. i don't think it will work.
It was just and idea... to be honest i think it should really be a good idea for a standard option on the forum package. oh well.

    Carlo

Check out this thread mate. I've clicked mamage attachments in the same way I normaly do and the image has appeared in the thread.

To be honest I thought the image had embedded in other threads I had posted, however, I couldn't remember which ones they were so hadn't mentioned them previously

As an afterthought is it maybe my own threads that my pics embed theirselves in as opposed to my posts (bearing in mind I don't use a 3rd party server)?

Sorry Carlo, I did type a new post but coudn't have clicked submit.

Anyway, what I had said was take a look at the fllowing link, the pic has been uploaded in the usual way but this time it's embedded in message. THis is the point I was trying to get at in my original post only I couldn't find any examples of my previous posts where the image had embedded itself.

It may be because there's multiple images in your original message, and your new one is a single image?

I could understand the forum makers doing this so that full pages aren't accounted for by image, in which some people may not be interested in,, thus taking up a lot of bandwidth for the server and user.

I'll test, this is with one image..

    and with 2 ? ..........

Edit: i'm guessing that's the reason then.
But don't everyone start posting a new post for every image! The reason for it doing this still very valid!
