    Default Tilley Lamp from Freecycle

I picked up a Tilley Stormlight today that was being advertised in the local Freecycle, so I thought I would have it. It's a Red X246B model & does not have a mantle. I have had a quick look at the website, www.tilleylamp.co.uk, and seen the parts I need.

While looking around for parts I found there is a specialist in Tilley & other types of old lamps, stoves & heaters that is not that far away in Littlehampton, so will give them a call tommorow to see if I can go round with it. Hopefully they can give it the once over & I will kniow what state it is in etc... Their link is:

    http://www.base-camp.co.uk/

It looks like they are one of thiose old firms that keep lots of parts for outdated kit, so may be usefull for others on here.

Hopefully I can get it working for not too much money.

Nice result... looks to be in great condition

I've yet to manage to get anything on my local Freecycle as the decent stuff goes in minutes

They seem to do their own custom mantle, with a finer weave that gives a better light, so I will see if I can get one of those. I will post up how I got on, as it will be interesting to see what that shop is like; there is a chance it could be old stove heaven. The guy I got it from said it belonged to his wife's grandad so it is probably quite old & the box looks like it came from the 70's. There is some parafin in it, so it will hopefully be OK. I am guessimng that I will need to get some parts for it, as it sounds like it has not been used in years, but I like the idea of a lamp like this for car camps & will hopefully have it working for the Northwood meet. I am quite chuffed I got it for nothing so if I need to spend a bit to get it working then that's OK by me.

I've ordered stuff from Base Camp before (for my Svea 123R stove) and liked the service.
They have all sorts of stuff as well.

Get a service kit and mantles from Base-camp. Always carry a spare mantle as they become fragile after being lit.

Remove the old paraffin from the tank, rinse with hot soapy water, rinse with clean water and let it dry. When you think its dry inside rinse with meths which will soak up any water residue (its hydroscorbic?) leaving you a nice clean tank.
