Pine knots in U.K????

Although I am British, I lived in the USA for some 18 years. While out there I learned to carve wood spirits using pine knots and on ocassion, Cedar knots. I have been back in Blighty now for a long time and have been buying raw Pine Knots from various people in the States (Oregon mostly). Now - this has got to be a huge expense due to the size and weight of these knots, not for the knots themselves - they're plentiful and cheap enough....it's the apalling postage to England. SO....can anyone steer me to anyone / anywhere I might find Pine Knots here in the U.K. or perhaps Europe??

I have seen them on Pines up here in Scotland, so they are available, or should be.
Have you tried Forest Rangers? They might be able to tell you when Pines are getting felled in your area and will let you take some off

Sorry to state the obvious but anywhere you see pine tree's. Pine are all over the UK. I cannot give you an exact grid reference but just take a stroll into your local park and see if there are any fallen pine tree's and help yourself.

Yes, that is rather obvious - if we had any Pines in this area then I would be harvesting the knots already. What few woods we have around here are very small and have not Pine trees. If you have any access and can supply me with the raw knots I'm all ears

Yes they do.... they have the ones I chose not to buy when I went there last time. Turners aren't getting any more knots though (so they told me) and they're not in the new catalogues. Also, they were typically very expensive...about £18-20 each for a "roughed out" knot. Funny thing though - I knew immediately who the supplier was when I saw their knots cos I used to buy directly from him and his book on carving knots is available worldwide - he's Uncle Mel McDaniels from Oregon and a good friend who I lost contact with some time ago. His book and video is well worth buying.

....to clarify......I bought a good quantity from Turners late last year and left them with just a few pieces I felt weren't ideal for my work. It was a very expensive trip and purchase. I would love to know if they have changed their mind and got new stock in????

Would that be Blighty near Chelternham ? If so I can clearly see lots of pine tree's in Downdeswell wood, and every surrounding strip of woods in that area.

Whereabouts in Yorkshire are you ? It's worth having a nosey around some of the old discarded plantations that are dotted about the North York Moors

For me as well please, because I think I'm missing something here maybe you have something else in mind but I just regard them as good scrap for the fire !
