Thread: Isle of Arran

    Default Isle of Arran

All being well we should be going to Arran for a week in Nov. I'm hoping to look through parish records to find my Granddads folks, but will have the kids with us so any 1st hand heads up on good stuff to see / do welcome.

Last year after stalking season was over we went to Orkney

The Google-fu gives lost of info but would like to hear from any one who's been, hoping to sneak in my hammock'n'stuff just in case i can get a night out

    Hi Shaman

Arran is great Ive been a few times for the mountains. There are some nice walks up the Glens, Glen Rosa in particular. The walk up Goatfell is pleasant also. There are some standing stones on the west side of the island and just outside Brodick the Arran Aromatics soap factory / outlet type place. Have a great time.

Loads of great walks and coastal paths on the island. Don't miss Brodick Castle and its grounds. You could also do a boat trip to the Holy Isle from Lamlash (might be a bit cold at that time of year, beg the monks for a cuppa ). Last time I was there I saw lots of seals, a couple of otters and plenty of birdlife.

The distillery at Lochranza is OK, it's relatively modern so doesn't have the charm of a traditional setup. The local whisky and beer are quite nice

ill second that, been to arran a few times and glen rosa though basic is a lovely pitch anywhere site, should have the place to youself this time of year.
depends how old your children are i suppose, not a huge amount of the usual attractions to keep them occupied.
