Im not one for rifles myself, i prefer snares. I was wondering if you require a liscence to own a .22 rifle, as i cannot find any websites that are clear with the law. (UK)
Thanks,

If you mean a .22 rimfire (as opposed to an air rifle) then oh yes indeedy - full FAC, cabinet, inspections, insurance etc etc.

you do not for an air rifle.

Do remember however that you can't just go trolling round in a public place with an air rifle, the law will take a very dim view on that indeed. I was overtaken on the motorway today by a motorbike, and in one of his panniers he had a BSA Airsporter, with the butt sticking out - no cover on it. Can't imagine plod would be very happy with that...

Frightening. The idiot is just asking to be stopped by some very nice men with MP5 submachine guns and wearing Police blue!
Ph34r - just to reinforce the point, if you break the law with an air rifle it will be considered to be a firearm and in court the punishment will reflect that. These days even a replica/airsoft or toy is classed as a firearm when the law is broken.
So:
-a .22 rimfire (or any other legally held firearm) requires a Firearms Certificate.
-a .22 air rifle with a muzzle energy of more than 12ft/lbs requires a Firearms Certificate.
-a .22 air rifle with a muzzle energy of less than 12ft/lbs does not require a Firearms Certificate.
Okay, thanks guys. certainly cleared the matter up. final question.
@ nigel tm - you said any firearm, including water pistols? I joke...
I still think ill stick to snaring though.

yup - if average joe can not tell it from a real fire arm - you get treated as though it was a real firearm.
a fact I have to be very aware of when transporting my airsoft gear.
