I have had some plastic avalanche shovels that have lasted quite a while, great for weight saving but I know what you mean, they are not long termers.
The Alaska (as above) is aluminium, they reckon unbreakable and comes with a 2 year factory warranty.
This is my replacement winter pack carry, given it a bit of test today and i'm impressed, strong and light.
