My Grandfather spent most of his adult life cooking his lunch on a shovel....a fine tradition!

Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best.
Yep....although me Grandad kept a separate shovel for the purpose

The shovel was kept finely polished, so when the time came, a quick wipe with a rag and it was ready.
Obviously, Welsh steam isnt very high on the unhygenic list.

I did a bit of that week before last. I forget which entrenching tool I have, but cord wrapped the (steel tube) handle, burnt off the paint then treated as per black iron frying pan.
So far tried bacon, sausages and fry bread at lunch time at work. Previous weekend I did peppered steak (turned out to be a beef pattie thing, soooo disappointed). Works really well. Tempted to swap the cord wrap for a leather cover as the cord slips a fair bit. I'll cheat and glue and stitch it on.
Mike, who is also on here, had his Spetsnaz tool with him. Yes, they work for throwing.![]()
Very cool photo.
It was first in the late 19th century in Sweden that shovels with full metal heads were common. Try to fry an egg on this! http://www.metropol.se/auctions/bildshow/default.asp?OG={F5A2C5E0-4316-4DB2-8A54-1525E93559C6}&extra={F5A2C5E0-4316-4DB2-8A54-1525E93559C6}
