Organised groups end up with extra insurance and public liability cover sometimes.
The landowners may well insist that the organiser completes risk assessment and health and safety requirements as well.
It's a p.i.t.a. but they have to cover their backsides too.

Sounds like a good event though

That's exactly the same issue I have here at Chopwell Wood!
I have more or less carte blanche, as to what to I choose to put on as; "open public events" but as soon as I try to organise something along the lines of a moot or gathering, I fall outside our normal insurance and have to consider added premiums I also have to have extra toilet facilities provided.
It's very definitely a p.i.t.a. and I'm not thinking kebab's
I would be happy enough paying £15 for a weekends camping anyway, to be honest

just one question as the wife thins she and the and the other 2 children would like to come along. they are not really interested in bushcraft/camping is it possible to bring our caravan or would it be better to use castle ward caravan site and walk over daily, if tom and myself dont camp over.

Hi all,



Just to remind you all of the second gathering I am organising on our site at Wild-Live on the 4th and 5th of April.

Just like last year, the cost is £15.- per person. This fee goes directly to the National Trust in lieu of their entrance fees.

All our tools, equipment, firewood and accomodations will be freely available to use. I will also set another group challenge for those that are interested, to help gell the group together.

Depending on interest, I would like to teach a saturday evening session of earthenware pottery making and firing at a material price of £10.- This session would last an hour + the rest of the evening to fire the pots, while you're sitting around the fire chatting. If you'd like to join, simply let me know during the day.



The site will be open from Friday evening 6PM until Sunday afternoon about 4PM.

Due to the estate gates closing, I would suggest you arrive between 8AM and 8PM.

Once you arrive, please follow the "branded" parking signs, and then the direction signs, which will lead you into the woods, directly to our course-site. Be sure to meet me as soon as you arrive, so I can note down your name and show you around.



There is plenty of room for tents but hammocks may give you a larger choice of camping spots as the landscape only has so many level spaces. You can also decide to sleep in our Yurt, which can handle about 5 or 6 people sleeping.

We also have two roomy permanent primitive structures on our site, which can hold about 3 people each. Of course, they will be used on a first come first serve basis. As I am building a larger teaching structure, there may be more room in it, but it looks likely that it will not be finished on time for the gathering.



Just so I can get a bit of an idea of numbers attending, I would really appreciate it if you would drop me a short e-mail at info@wild-live.org containing your expected day of arrival and the names of people you are thinking of bringing with you.



As this gathering is not only about getting together with like-minded people and having great "craic" but also about sharing knowledge, I would invite anyone who would really like to share a particular skill in a more organised manner to send me an e-mail. I will then plan it in on the informal "program" so that people wishing to learn from your knowledge can ensure they are present at the right time.



Last autumn's gathering was a great success with so much sharing and friendship during the weekend, I can only expect it to be even better this time around!

How does food get organised at something like this. Does everyone just bring their own grub and cooking utensils and wait for firespace? Considering my culinary expertise starts and finishes with sausages and super noodles I'm easily satisfied

Are Kids welcomce, and any chance of a show of hands who will have kids with them ?

( Just so i know if to bring my own. if there are no more kids she will get bored i imagine. )

Kids are welcome under adult supervision. Another forum member also said they were going to bring kids.
Food is generally provided by yourself. Last year, some people brought more then they needed in order to share with other people. Most people cooked over the fire, but some cooked over their own stove. There is also a big cast-iron pot available that could be used to heat-up stews in (As happened last autumn)

Dear all,

I have got some great news!
As I have volunteered a lot of my time and effort to the National Trust in the past while, The National Trust have kindly offered to donate the entrance fee back to this particular gathering.
Luckily this means this gathering will be completely free.
All the other information in my previous posts still stands.
