If you want to try fire by friction the I have some seasoned poplar for a hearth and hazel for a spindle.

we need to split the heath wood and there is enough to make four or five bow sets.

Me thinks a plan coming together

ah the jet boil. an elegant and effective temptress. had one for a while now but use it strictly for hiking/canoe treks. its too modern and technical for my personal bushcraft tastes

i think your right the kelly is a very good piece of kit, i carry one in my landrover 2.5 pint size. i think you would find it very hard to find a faster way to boil water, like all wood burning stoves they can become a bit black and smelly. but if you dont want to be dependant on petroleum based product's i think there No1.

Default We gonna have a visitor

    Good idea.

    BIG NEWS

Went to Stow -Cum-Quy show yesterday (drama in itself - I'll fill you in later) and a guy from Bedford was doing Bowdrill demos, etc. Loads of spoons out that he'd carved etc.
Guess what....I invited him to the meet and he's coming. Only to pleased to help like minded people

Update: He just rang up to confirm and asking if they can stop over as a long way to come for the day - but not bothered if no one else is
