Seasoned hazel, oil-filled compass, silver collar (will tarnish so as not to alert animals), leather lanyard, rubber 'docking' rings and an alpine ferrule.
Nice and simple.
Thanks for looking.

Not all those who wander are lost.
i like that , what are the frubber 'docking' rings for?
Oh - the rings are for measuring length of stride or length or print (good for guessing where the next print is ahead of you). They can be moved up or down the stick. The rubber rings are in fact used for castrating or 'docking' lambs and were bought from Mole Avon for £1.20 for 100. I have found loads of uses for them already...although my wife looked at me a bit wierd when she found a box of 'castrators' in my car glove compartment![]()

Where did the silver collar come from?
The Ark was built by an amateur, the Titanic by professionals.

There are other places. Ebay etc. - and some places do it cheaper. I think that John (The Stickmaker) can order them in especially - and he might do them quite a bit cheaper.

Nice work mate, really like the compass, I saw one once with a compass that flipped open to reveal a small hip flask, always wanted one like that.
Very nice work mate, you have just inspired me to make my own.
Order for blank stick has just been made.

Very nice work, I really like the compass. (thanks for the link...i'm there now searching)
I like having different colored (Im american) rings so its easy to differentiate between measurements, or keep track more then one thing at a time. I also like to mark the length of the stick like a ruler so I can also have accurate readings in the field.
