Safeways/Morrisons are selling boxes of 12 Greenheat sachets, and 1 litre bottles of gel for 48 pence at the moment. Seems helping the environment isn't too popular with the BBQ crowd.

Can you transport the stuff by plane? I wouldn't mind trying some, but if I can't bring it back it wouldn't be much use... (spending my holidays in Scotland)
Edit : Sorry, I forgot : thanks for the tip :biggthump
WELL THERE GOES MY PENSION PLAN!!![]()
Seriously, this is a fantastic offer people (should I be saying this? what a crap business man) I love this stuff - none toxic - none smelly (almost) - its excellent tinder, one sachet will heat a mug of water (if used with a stove set up) as the guys on the Islay hike will verify and its eco firiendly. And at that price, try it at least, you got nothing to loose!!
As for plane safe - Douglas its as stable as can be - just leave it in your hold gear and I would immagine it would be fine - although dont take my word as gospel, and if your worried check with your airline before departure.
I'm off the weep quietly in a corner now!!
Rapid and that price it is still cheaper than I can get it trade!
   none in my Morrisons. I made a special trip just for that...ho hum... :?: :rolmao:

Safeway can make mistakes with the pricing.
Last summer i bought 24 33cl bottles of Stella (a case) and was charged for a six pack.
Six packs where on offer at £3.60.
I asked the guy on the checkout if he'd made a mistake and he said if it was coming up on the machine at that ,thats what it was.
I came back into the shop and got 11 more cases (didn't want to be greedy)
288 bottles of Stella for £43.20 ,15p a bottle.
The guy on the checkout was killing himself laughing and so was i when i got home.):
):
):
I always have a little check when im in just in case but i doubt they will let it happen again![]()
Well, if they made a mistake on the green heat its their problem!! Get some before they realise.
Definitely not a mistake. Price signs showed original price with a slash through it and the new price marked up. It went through the till at 48p no problem.
Whereabouts are they stacking it ? I looked amongst bbq stuff etc but it wasn't there , maybe a regional thing
Where about are you NotBob? I've called all the morrisons within 25 miles and none of them have it  I WANT SOME :-)

Kent/Sussex border
I couldn't find it in mine either  So I brought some vodka instead and added some blackberry's from the garden. Just got to wait for/ find some sloes for the other half of the bottle):
my local safeways had the bottles but no sachets.
cheers, and.
You should give chilli peppers a go, interesting experience. So I brought some vodka instead and added some blackberry's from the garden. Just got to wait for/ find some sloes for the other half of the bottle
Nick In Belfast.
Regardless of price it's great stuff.
I'm now running a hex stove on it and it's now quite a pleasant experience.
I could never stand the fumes from the Hex blocks![]()

Another convert - praise the lord!!):
Well I just popped in to my local Safeways on the off chance there was any going and have walked out with 20, yep 20 boxes of the stuff - all at 0.48p each !!!!!!!!!!!
...and it still cost under a tenner - I cant believe my luck):
I got some pretty strange looks as I was putting as much as I could in to the basket, and at the till :rolmao: I only left about 5 boxes on the shelves :rolmao:
My local store is in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, but who knows if they will restock at these prices ?
p.s they were reduced from 98p and thats still a silly price !

Yep ,48p a bottle![]()
No sachets left just bottles and lots of them at Safeways in Newtownards shopping centre.
RB
i have been to 2 different safeways to try and buy some. No luck.
my local waitrose has some for £3.49 a litre big difference eh.
I wonder if their not shifting old stock, a discontinued line? Be interesting to see if it reappears on the shelves again.
I asked today why the price difference between stores ? and the girl on the checkout said they should all be the same but maybe they hadn't changed the price on the shelves.
Might be worth asking at your local to scan it and see what the till say's ???
My woman has been burning mine in the fireplace (chimneys blocked off in her apartment :?: ) so i'm buying plenty.

Having had a little play with the greenheat,
I tore one along the dotted line for about 3mm and squeezed a small amount onto a brick. Then lit the gel/sachet with a match. It burned for about 2mins then went out :?:
I lit a second one but this time squeezed out plenty of juice. Much better burn time 18mins.
Would a windshield help get a better burn or conserve fuel? How about tearing it open more?
How do you use yours?

I use the lid of an airgun pellet tin with a Hex stove and it works fine but a wind shield would be better.
It's more efficient in this home made stove ......
![]()
......and i imagine even better in a trangia where the windshield covers the pot as well as the heat source.
rb
You imagine right Rapid, one sachet of green heat will heat up the water in the mug/lid section of the mess kit used with the windshield - this is tested on the stainless set I would imagine the Ali sets are even more conductive and there for better. :super:
Cheers guys, will have to get testing with the Trangia set from Gary then !):

Let us know how you get on Nigel - I havent tried the ali set with greenheat so it would be good to know.
Also one tip - I usually build a small twig base, like a mini temperate fire lay, and place the windshield over this - slice open the sachet, squeeze out a little gel and light this then place on the mug. Gel burns sachet and all and the base means less heat is lost to the ground and thus more heat goes to your mug.
Simple and effective - try it!
Am I right in thinking that thios is the stuff with the WWF logo in one corner and is made from veggie matter?
I'm confused if it is! Cos i tried it and it was naff, and everyone i spoke with said the same......we've got a load of it sittin in the stockroom at work cos no-one would by it.............
Green n Mean
Thats the stuff. i haven't been overly successful with it either.
I did manage to get 13 boxes from safeway in the end though. so i shall get plenty of practise.
I think there are 2 different products being spoken about here. The greenheat stoves (small tins sold in 3s with a burner, medium tins sold in 2s with a burner, and large tin with plastic lid with a stove) aren't the product being talked about here, I think. I'm tempted to try using the contents of the stove tins as a booster for firemaking this weekend (me and Jak in some woodland with another mate (who's on BCUK, but has't posted yet I think).
