Thread: ID: White Umbellifer

    Default ID: White Umbellifer

Saw these at the weekend (poor photos) and wonder if anyone can give any clues as to an ID?

White umbellifer, flowering now (late August), heads fairly flat across the top, about 2" diameter across the whole flower head, plants 2-3ft high. Second photo shows a distinctive flower head (above left of the flower in the centre of the picture) prior to opening (though this form may be typical of umbellifers, I don't know). Growing in a fairly open wooded /grassy area (fairly recently planted plantation so none of the trees too big.

I know I need to check in a good field guide, but clues as to a starting point would be good.

    Thanks

    Geoff

Looks like wild carrot -- I think I can see the 'whorl of green bracts' under the flower heads -- Google images should turn up some good results.
