    Default Teaching them young.

    Hello,
Teaching them young. After my 13 year old son made his first small woodlore knife with some help from me. He wanted to make a fullsize woodlore knife so my brother put the money up for him to make the blade. My son bought the toolsteel and worked out his pattern. This is him cutting out the blade blank.

    Excellent
    Now that's a good thing you've encouraged.

I really think we do our children no favours by not teaching them to be competent with tools.

nice to see this, it reminds me at my father teaching me how to use the tools in the shed, at the age of 12 he bought me a drillpress with a electric drill. Had a lot of fun with that and learned a lot.

In these days most of the youngsters sit all day behind a pc or laptop, chatting and gaming, so again very nice to see this youngster working with his hand and creating something which will last for years and years.

Teaching your children to be self reliant, competent and confident is the sign of a real man. Be very, very proud.

Fantastic! You should both be very proud! I'm very interested to see how you get on as i'm shortly going to be starting my first knife project (at age 37) and am looking forward to passing on my extensive knowledge (about all things including tool work, bushcraft, cars, women, music, the value of a well sited defensive position and the fact that many things can be preserved in alcohol, though dignity is not one of them!) to young Jed (currently 11 months).

I too would be interested in the type of steel used, any chance?

More power to you topknot junior, and remember, Dad may teach you all that you know, but he may never teach you all that he knows! Keep the faith!

Hello, This is my finished fullsize woodlore which i made myself ,filed and sanded with a little help from my dad. The handle is made from teak ,black liners and brass and copper loveless bolts my uncle will seal the wood.
I made the sheaf myself with my dad looking over my shoulder.
I feel sad that it is leaving me, but its going to a good home.
