British forests

Does anybody know if there is a list of british forests somewhere that tell you whether wild camping/fire lighting is permissible? I'm fairly new to the 'bushcraft as a hobby' thing so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I'm not aware of a list but if anyone has one please post :-)

Being in Manchester I'd just drive 2 hours or so north and take advantage of Scotlands more sensible laws of land access etc.

As far as I am aware their is no wild camping permitted on Forestry Commission and there are restrictions of fires etc within forests for obvious reasons.

That said the FC have a network of camping sites in forests and wooded areas and a list of these can be found here;

You can wild camp in some parts of Britain without permission such as the Lake District (higher altitude open spaces) and Dartmoor for instance. And of course you can wild camp anywhere you can get permission.

What about Kershope Forest its just over the border in Scotland wouldn't mind trying that myself as I am in Preston, not too far from Manchester.
